Direct from the Adelaide Fringe and nominated for Best Cabaret two years running at the Fringe World Festival, this glamorous musical comedy traces the journey of Divalicious sopranos Fiona Cooper Smyth and Penny Shaw as they re-enact cat fights in the operatic chorus to close encounters with reality television – namely Australia’s Got Talent.
From rival sopranos to TV talent shows, the audience is invited into the “dressing room” of these duelling divas in a show that illustrates what friendship, loyalty and the quest for stardom mean in the cut-throat world of show business.
Punctuated with a barrage of sharp satire and tongue-in-cheek humour, these sirens of song take the audience on journey of operatic hits, musical theatre and Hollywood movies, allowing the audience to join them in the highs and lows of life as an aspiring “diva in waiting”.
“If you want a taste of opera but you’re not sure you can manage a whole one, then this is for you!,” says Penny Shaw.
Find out what really goes on behind the scenes as dressing-room gossip is mixed with beautiful music and backstage banter….the perfect operatic cocktail, “shaken, not stirred!”
Light-hearted and entertaining, whilst maintaining the highest musical standards, DivaLicious has impressed everyone from the seasoned opera lover to the complete novice.
