Since its humble beginnings in 2011, My First School Pakistan has been working tirelessly to transform the educational landscape in some of Pakistan’s most underserved communities. Founded by Andrea Francolini, an Australian photographer with a passion for making a difference, the charity has been driven to create sustainable, long-term change. With a focus on by building and upgrading schools in remote areas. Over the years, the charity has not only built classrooms but has also provided essential resources to ensure that children receive the quality education they deserve.
One of the first projects the charity undertook was the community school in Shitindas. In 2012, most of the school’s classrooms were simple tents. Over time, the community and donations helped construct permanent classrooms, complete with lights and, eventually, computers. By 2024, what started as a few tents has transformed into a fully equipped school. This development is proof that even small, gradual changes can have a significant impact.
With the success of Shitindas School, My First School Pakistan turned its attention to other schools in need. Starting with the Sunrise Public School in Bar-Khas. Although the school already existed, its structure was falling apart. And, it lacked basic facilities such as proper plumbing and electricity. The charity has installed sinks and begun improving the infrastructure, but much more work remains. The goal is to both restore the building, and also create a safe and conducive learning environment for the students.
Another key focus has been the Shining Stars Montessori Public School in Budalass, a small primary school where many families struggle to pay the monthly fees of just $6-8. Despite the financial challenges, no child is ever turned away. The charity has provided essential furniture and stationery, ensuring that students have the basic tools they need to learn. This kind of support goes beyond education – it fosters hope and community spirit.
Meanwhile, the Bright Moon Model School in Bar-Dass faces its own set of challenges. The building has suffered severe damage due to water leakage, which has caused structural issues. In response, My First School Pakistan is working to install a septic tank and make necessary repairs to prevent further damage.
Beyond infrastructure, the charity has also sponsored children’s education. One standout story is that of Khizra, a girl who has been supported by the charity since 2013. Now in Year 10, Khizra is one of the top students in her class of 450. Her success exemplifies the life-changing impact that education can have.
Through its projects, My First School Pakistan has proven that even in the face of adversity, education can flourish with the right support. By building schools, training teachers, and sponsoring students, the charity is not only creating opportunities but also empowering entire communities for the future.
