The Riviera by Metricon Homes is a spaciously designed, luxurious family home that will take your breath away. At the same time, as you walk through its sprawling, grand entrance, you will feel like you’ve always belonged there, that you’ve truly come home. Part of Metricon’s Signature range, The Riviera is an expansive, open-plan home that has everything you could ever wish for in a dream home, according to Metricon Design Director Adrian Popple.

The Riviera In Your Home

“The vision for The Riviera was simple,” says Adrian. “It had to have wow factor.”

Mission accomplished, and it’s easy to see why this home has won many awards for its luxe-meets-relaxed design.

“The flagship five-bedroom, five-bathroom abode has set a new benchmark for contemporary coastal cool,” adds Adrian. “The sprawling, east coast masterpiece is the personification of luxury resort-style living. It is anchored by an expansive open-plan kitchen, dining and entertaining area that seamlessly flows from the inside out, delivering the ultimate lifestyle home.”

In a nutshell – The Riviera is all you need for the ultimate luxury lifestyle, practical living, space for family and friends and room to put your personal touch on every inch of the design.

Designing the Riviera

“I love this home,” Adrian smiles. “It’s so welcoming and inviting. It’s the kind of home you feel like you could just move in and live in.”

Indeed, the magnificence of the Riviera’s design hits you the moment you enter and are greeted by a 5.8m void connecting each of the upstairs wings. A sense of subtle glamour and resplendent minimalism is imbued throughout every corner of the home.

From here, The Riviera’s layout unravels to reveal the ultimate entertainer’s paradise, beyond which a lush, palm-tree-lined horizon frames a wall of ceiling-to-floor, bi-fold doors. Its oversized concrete tiles and Calcutta stone splash-backs are cleverly juxtaposed with warm oak accents and walnut timber panelling.  You’ll also relish in the inky cabinetry and monochrome artworks that are offset by wall niches adorned with lush indoor greenery.

Open Spaces Cleverly Implemented

Central to The Riviera design is its open timber staircase, which adds to the openness of this exceptional abode. An utterly standout feature, with its spine wall-mounted concrete-look tiles the stairs add elevated style, detail and intrigue.

“It’s both the functionality and flow that really set the Riviera apart,” says Adrian. “One of the great things about this home is that it’s modern but it doesn’t feel austere.

“That comes down to balance. Initially, I was a little concerned about the size of the dining room because it is quite large, but the transition of the entry that steps down into the dining area helps to define the space. We wanted to put all the wow factor into the ground floor, into the areas you entertain in. This is where people spend most of their time, so the space really accentuates and celebrates the social heart of the home.”

Adrian’s design totally nailed the brief – from the bigger picture to the finer features, every detail has been considered to ensure this home isn’t only aspirational, but practical, too.

Smaller features such as louvre windows to promote cross ventilation, highlight glass to allow maximum light, and even the cladding used on the home’s exterior, have been selected because they serve a functional purpose, as well as looking stylish and subtly opulent.

“With the Riviera, we knew we needed to create something special,” Adrian says. “We wanted to take a step away from our core Designer product range and give ourselves that point of difference. What we’re good at is making everything work and not leaving anything to chance. We’ve had architects and builders come through and they see us now as a serious competitor and threat. Because we can design to that level and also back it up with our build quality and attention to detail.”

Every touch point of The Riviera has been carefully thought out, with nothing left to chance.

That the compliments and commendations for the Riviera keep pouring in, Adrian says, shows that Metricon is continually lifting the bar and pushing the design envelope. For Adrian, this is the most rewarding part of the job.

“For me to sit down and get creative and design something completely different was really exciting,” he admits. “Then to see it hit the ground and know that people are loving it, that’s what makes it all worthwhile.”
