Just ten minutes from Mudgee in the Heart of New South Wales, Gooree Park is one of the region’s most historic and picturesque properties. Producing both champions of the track and a wide range of award-winning wines, there’s no doubting Gooree’s thoroughbred credentials.

Much-loved Aussie cook Lyndey Milan visited for the day with The Carousel Publisher Robyn Foyster, who grew up at Gooree with her family. Her father Lloyd Foyster established Gooree as a horse stud in the early 1960s and bred champion race horses such as Caulfield Cup winners Ming Dynasty and Mighty Kingdom. He also built a racecourse which is still in use today. In 1978, Filipino businessman Eduardo Cojuangco and his wife bought the property and continued its successful track record for breeding champion horses. Sadly, Eduardo passed away in 2020 but his family still own and operate this beautiful stud, which now also boasts a Cellar Door.

The exciting news is now you can stay at Gooree and soak up the magical beauty of this horse stud. You can book accommodation on AirBnB here: https://www.gooreepark.com/stay/

First off in the video is a chat with Cellar Door staff Stephanie Ross on the different types of wine produced from the grapes grown in this, the biggest vineyard in the Mudgee region – and when talking wines and bubbly, you need to sample.. right?

Lyndey’s visit included an introduction by Stud Mistress Vikki Cannon to champion racehorse Desert War, who died in June, 2023. On the filming day, Lyndey gets up close-and-personal to this 600kg winner of six Group 1 races (including two consecutive Epsom Handicaps!) – watch how keen he is to relieve Lyndey of the tasty treats she’s brought along for him. And check out the vision of the newborn foal our crew was lucky enough to catch during filming at Gooree.

The foal was born in September 2014 and was named Sweet Victory and victory is what the young filly later enjoyed when she went on to win multiple races. Her dam shown here giving birth was called Essence of Success.

A perfect tour for all concerned. You can take part in the exact same experience by booking your spot on one of the Gooree Park Cellar Door and Stud Tours, or check out their website for dates on some of the other events such as:

  • Bubbly Breakfast at the Track
  • Wine and Wagyu BBQs
  • High Tea at the Stables
  • Melbourne Cup at Gooree Park
