#1 Lily-Rose Depp’e first major magazine cover
The 16-year-old daughter of actors Vanessa Paradis and Johnny Depp has kicked off the year by fronting the cover of Love magazine, shot by photographer Willy Vanderperre.
Lily-Rose has been in hot demand since making her fashion debut, starring in Chanel’s June 2015 and walking the runway for the French fashion house.
But Lily-Rose has bigger ambitions than the runway, telling Love magazine she wants to be an actor and her dream director to work with is Quentin Tarantino.
#2 Jaden Smith models for Louis Vuitton
Louis Vuitton’s creative director Nicolas Ghesquière announced on Sunday that Will Smith’s 17-year-old son will feature in the SS16 campaign, photographed by the legendary Bruce Weber.
Jaden is no stranger to the fashion world, having done a recent shoot with Vogue magazine, and being seen front-row at New York Fashion Week. Can we sign up to join the Smith family too?!
#3 Dolce & Gabbana’s debut line of hijabs and abayas
This week’s move by the Italian fashion house sees them joining fellow brands Tommy Hilfiger, DNKY and Monique Lhuillier, who have all launched a stylish range of hijabs and abayas. We can’t wait to see which labels will follow suit.
#4 Miley Cyrus supports local Aussie fashion
On her recent trip Byron Bay where she attended the Falls Festival, Miley got herself kitted out at Spell & The Gypsy Collective (and took the obligatory selfie – see below). When it comes to beachy/festival style you can’t beat Australian designers!
It’s not the first time she’s been in the hands of our native creatives. On her Milky Milky Milk Tour, Melbourne fashion student Leyla Raif made Miley’s stage costume.
#5 A new jewellery collaboration to-die-for…
While we’re on Australian fashion, blogger Carmen Hamilton of Chronicles of Her, and jewellery designer Susan Driver have collaborated on a to-die-for jewellery line. The collection epitomises Carmen’s effortless and chic style, and Susan’s structured yet intricate aesthetic. These pieces are going straight on our wish list!
#6 Ruby Rose’s Ralph Lauren campaign
Ruby Rose’s career has gone from strength to strength, going from VJ to international actress, starring in Orange is The New Black. And it looks like she’s starting off 2016 with a bang, continuing her success streak. Her latest feat sees her starring alongside pal Hailey Baldwin as the face of Denim & Supply, Ralph Lauren’s Spring 2016 Campaign.
Unlike most campaigns, Ruby said, “We had full creative direction with what we wanted to do and how to wear the clothes.” There is also a four-episode video series being released on Instagram at @denimandsupplyrl! Check out our exclusive interview with Ruby where she reveals the stories behind her tattoos & more.
#7 Model who lost leg from toxic shock syndrome stars in Nordstrom campaign
Lauren Wasser has just scored an incredible comeback-campaign since losing her right leg in 2012 to toxic shock syndrome, allegedly caused by a tampon.
The inspiring 27-year-old features in Nordstrom’s holiday catalogue wearing active wear with her prosthetic leg on full display. It’s been an excruciatingly tough few years for the model, who is currently in a legal battle with Kimberly-Clark Cooperation, the manufacturer and distributor of Kotex Natural Balance tampons.
#8 The best capsule collection to date?
Italian label Gucci and Japanese label Commes des Garçons have come together to create the most incredible capsule collection of four silk scarves. Totally chic and a little bit playful… Now for the bad news – the collection is only available at London’s Dover Street Market.
#9 The new Hadid sister to watch
We’ve all heard of Gigi and Bella, but now the news is shifting to step-sister, LA-based stylist and entrepreneur Alana, who is debuting her fashion line.
Alana told Hollywood Reporter that her sisters are always asking her for “style advice”. The collection is a collaboration with Lou & Grey and will be released later in 2016.
#10 Karlie Kloss: The new face of Topshop
Topshop are on a roll with their supermodel campaigns, having Gigi Hadid and now Karlie Kloss has joined the crew. Topshop’s new collection is oozing cool, and Karlie fits right in with her “I don’t care” gaze and dishevelled hair.
#11 Louis Vuitton’s $81,500USD backpack
We’re all guilty of a fashion splurge once in a while, but $81,500? To save you from calculating, that’s about $113,800AUD.
So what do you get for that? A black alligator crocodile skin backpack, described as “a visually powerful everyday bag with the vigor of the outdoors”. Looks snappy.
