12 Apps You Can’t Live Without

There’s a profusion of apps on the market but we’ve made it easy for you and singled out the apps we love best here at TheCarousel.

Smiling Mind

Meditation isn’t just for hippies! With an app like Smiling Mind, you’ll reach your happy place in no time. Choose from 20 different programs, then punch in some info about yourself such as your mood, alertness and curiosity level (yes, that’s a thing). You’ll be presented with a few minutes of “me-time”, led by a soothing yet captivating voice… think of this experience like hanging out with your GPS, minus the passive-aggressive attitude.

Spotify

I quickly became addicted to this app and now pay for the premium version so I can listen to my music and avoid listening to the ads. It’s completely transformed the way I enjoy music. It’s helped me to discover new music based on recommendations and I like to regularly update my playlists with new bands and singer/song writers.

Pocket Yoga

If you haven’t heard of Pocket Yoga then you can’t technically call yourself a true yogi… we’re just kidding. Download this app immediately to get your downward-dog on anywhere you go, even when you’re jet-setting around the world… all you need is a flat surface to stand or lie on. Not only will this app walk you through the trickiest poses, but it’ll also report back on heart-rate and calories burnt.

LinkedIn

It’s amazing how many business leads and connections you can get through LinkedIn. It’s really helpful if you want to contact someone but don’t know their contact information. I would check LinkedIn at least once a day.  It is a useful resource for networking.

Tabata Trainer

We all know by now that intense interval training burns more calories than going at an average pace for an hour straight on a cross-trainer. Tabata Trainer encourages this type of exercise with a timer that strictly alerts you when it’s time to GO and time to pull back and rest. Best of all, it’s loaded with routines that vary in length and difficulty, so you won’t get bored of the same old workout.

Instagram

We are all totally addicted to instagram above and it’s easily the app you can spend hours a day if you love lifestyle inspiration through pictures. We now have @CarouselBeauty, @CarouselTech, @CarouselFood and recently launched our @CarouselHealth instagrams so check us out on instagram. Instagram pictures provide fabulous armchair travel and lifestyle inspiration.

RunKeeper

There’s no hidden catches with this app, it’s exactly what the name suggests. Start your walk, run or cycle and have the app time you and map out your route, so you can compare your results each time you repeat the exercise. It’s as easy as that.

SunSmart

We all know that we should be wearing sunscreen every day, so here’s an app for those that forget to reapply through the day. This one that takes in all your information like natural skin colour, height, weight, age, and where you are in Australia, and it will remind you when sun protection is required. So for example, it could tell you that UV levels are highest from 10am to 2pm in your area, and that it’s vital to be protected then.

Sleep Cycle

Want to know exactly what happens when you doze off? Download Sleep Cycle and pop your phone on your bed to track your sleep phases, snooze quality and average time in bed. And forget your alarm app, this one will even wake you up during light sleep, so you’ll get out of bed at your optimum.

Goodreads

Calling all booklovers – this is the best app ever. Who wants to buy a book and realise it’s no good. Here you can get reviews, recommendations from your friends and information on the best books across different genres. We found this app a revelation when we discovered it and recommend it to all our friends. It’s like joining up to an online book club. Just fantastic…

Makeup Genius

If you like to try before you buy then you’ll love L’Oreal Paris’s Makeup Genius. All you need to do is take a photo of your face, and its face-mapping technology will let you apply your favourite shades of lipstick, eyeshadow or eyeliner. But you will find yourself getting fully distracted and before you know it you’ve been cruising virtual makeup counters for hours but without the commitment of purchasing. Love it!

Yoga Studio

Getting your work-life balance is something we all struggle with. But with the profusion of health apps available, it’s a whole lot easier.  The best thing is you can select your level of performance and choose between 15 minute or 30 minute yoga demonstrations. So if you are time poor and just want a quick yoga fix to clear your mind, it’s there for you.
