The 23-day festival, voted Australia’s best tourism event, is set to run from 27 May to 18 June, 2016. With over 80 light installations, 1,500 hours of programmed music events and 170 creative events, it is easy to feel like you don’t know where to start. These five tips will make sure that you don’t miss out on all of the magic of Vivid.
-
Download the new Vivid App
Vivid visitors should definitely download the new-look Vivid Sydney smartphone app to find their way around the stunning precincts and events featured in the 2016 program. The app features maps that match visitors’ current location with nearby installations and events, making Vivid Sydney easier than ever to manoeuvre. With the ‘My Vivid’ log in feature, the users can save their favourite light installations, events, precincts and speakers so that they can plan their visit and come back for more.
-
Leave the car at home
Visitors coming to Vivid Sydney are being encouraged to use public transport, including 3,200 extra bus services and over 600 extra train services running in addition to the regular timetable services.
-
Come early in the week
The busiest nights are always those coming in to the weekend, so for a more relaxed and less hectic Vivid experience, choose to come from Monday to Wednesday.
-
Arrive early in the evening
Similarly, the crowds become bigger as the nights go on. So avoid becoming too tired and not enjoying your experience by making sure that you come early.
- Come back
Don’t try to squeeze everything in to one night. With exciting new additions such as the installations at Taronga Zoo and the Royal Botanic Gardens, as well as the huge scope of music and creative events, you need to spread out your visit over a few days.
