To celebrate the eagerly-awaited release of the Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 in Australia on November 19, here are five little-known nuggets about the world’s highest-paid actress.
- She’s unlucky in love
Ever since her recent break-up with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, whom she had been seeing for about a year, Jennifer says she’s found it hard to find a connection. “No one ever asks me out,” she says. “I am lonely every Saturday night. Guys are so mean to me. I know where it’s coming from, I know they’re trying to establish dominance, but it hurts my feelings. I’m just a girl who wants you to be nice to me. I am straight as an arrow. I feel like I need to meet a guy, with all due respect, who has been living in Baghdad for five years who has no idea who I am.
- She has the world’s most practical tattoo
Jennifer has a tattoo of the H20 symbol tattooed on her hand to remind her to drink more water. “I’ve never had a symbol or a quote that was so important to me that I wanted it tattooed on me. So I was like, I’m going to need to stay hydrated. Forever. It’s very practical.”
- She’s still pissed about those photos
It was exactly a year ago that hackers stole naked photos from her iCloud account and posted them on the Web, an episode she labelled a “sex crime.” Her mother was visiting with a new puppy when the news broke. “I was outside crying, and Pippi jumped up on my lap and started licking up all my tears, and I couldn’t put her down for hours. And I mean, hours. I was like, ‘Well, obviously, you’re mine.’ ” Looking back, does she have more perspective on the ordeal? “It was all pain and no gain,” she says. “But I don’t dwell on it unless someone brings it up.”
- She almost became a model instead
Jennifer went into modelling before her acting career took off. One of her first gigs was for Abercrombie & Fitch, though she never made it into the catalogue. “Which I thought was unbelievable,” Jennifer once joked on Conan. When her agent asked why she didn’t make the cut, the clothing company mailed the shots back, which showed Jennnifer committing far too hard while playing football on the shoot. “At one point, [a model screamed] ‘Get her away from me!’”
- She nearly didn’t do Hunger Games!
“Just saying yes to this one thing could completely change my life, and I don’t know if it’s going to be for the better,” she said in 2012. Ultimately, Jennifer’s mother once again influenced her decision. “She was like, ‘You’re being a hypocrite, because you always say you don’t care about the size of the movies.’ Because when I was doing Indies, everybody was always like, ‘Why don’t you ever do a studio?’ I’d say, ‘Because I don’t care about the size of the movie. I care about the story,’” Jennifer said. “And my mum was like, ‘Now you have a story you like, and you’re not going to do it because of the size.’” It took Jennifer three days to say yes to playing Katniss.
