If only we could go back in time and bestow to our younger selves all those invaluable life lessons we’ve picked up along the way.

Think of all the fruitless hours, money and anguish we’d save!

It’s never too late to change of course, regardless of your age, or financial circumstances.

So, to help you on your way, we asked six inspiring Australian leaders in their respective fields to share the words of wisdom they’d tell their 20-year-old selves.

Dr Karen Phillip, psychotherapist and author : “Listen to others, learn everything you can, and not just talk the talk, but walk the walk.”

Jo Munro, author, consultant, retail shopping expert: “I’d say just step out and do it. And have fun, and laugh your way through it.”

Ellyse Perry, dual sports star: “You’ve got to stick at it. It’s really great to have a dream, but I think you’ve got to have the confidence and belief to carry it through even when things get a little bit tough. Make sure you’re resilient as well and embrace all the hard times.”Darren Stephens, author, publisher, co-founder of Trading Room Pro: “Life is your oyster, believe in yourself, anything is possible. Find the right mentor and go out there and make it happen.”

Gai Williams, author, pharmacist: “When opportunity knocks, open the door. Always, always take everything that’s given to you. If you make a mistake it’s a learning experience, it’s not failure, and you always come back better.
