When I was a little girl the 21st century sounded so exciting and promising. I was sure that when I was an adult I would be driving a flying car and I would travel in a time capsule just like Star Trek – but there was a reality check.
In 2015 I find myself driving a ‘normal’car in ridiculous Sydney traffic and I catch a plane for over 22 hours to see my family in France. Surely the little girl inside me is a bit disappointed but I am secretly over the moon when I’m driving and talking to my Apple Watch asking Siri to find me the closest cafe.
I have felt very lucky to have worked in the digital world for over 10 years and have been able to see how technology has improved our lives beyond belief and how it changes the way we connect with each other. The most exciting part of this impressive technological evolution, is that we are only at this stage dealing with the tip of the iceberg. Who knew a majority of us would own high-tech smartphones not much bigger than our hands and that they would be filled with great apps. We can be in a cafe where the Wi-Fi allows us to download movies from the cloud, we can listen to music via Blue-Tooth and take phone calls on our watches. We are surely already living in the future.

Never stop imagining how our future lives will be influenced by technology. If you need a little bit of help imagining this amazing future then I can suggest that you plunge into a futuristic movie to give you a taste of what is going to be tomorrow.
Tomorrowland, Disney’s new movie, is a futuristic adventure starring Academy Award winner George Clooney. Bound by a shared destiny, former boy-genius Frank (Clooney), jaded and disillusioned and Casey (Britt Robertson), a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity, embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space known only as Tomorrowland. What they must do there changes the world and themselves forever. Tomorrowland promises to take audiences on a thrilling ride of nonstop adventure through new time dimensions that at this stage we have only been dreamed of.
I didn’t stop smiling when I was watching Tomorrowland. Firstly, because this movie was directed, produced and co-written by two-time Oscar winner Brad Bird it has been made with awesome special effects, innovative futuristic ideas, chase scenes, mystery and danger. Secondly, for me, one of the most incredible scenes is when Casey discovers this city of future, Tomorrowland. Here people wear incredible futuristic outfits, there are flying cars and flying trains, it’s simply magical and its a world I imagined as a child and I would love to live in now.
The main message in this beautifully made movie is to make everybody aware of our fragile planet. Tomorrowland makes us believe that technology holds the key to a better world.
People may say we have already stepped out into the future with a variety of technologies. Fashion designers create outfits with 3D printers. App developers take us to the next level of connectivity where we can call internation numbers for free using Wi-Fi while standing in the street. Smartphones have become our favourite pets – we can’t live without them and they’re extremely addictive. Smartphones contain everything; our medical identity, our fitness profile, access to our banking, our management of our daily work, international shopping online and so many other things. Social media is the new village square; a place where we chat, share photos and videos with friends and family while also connecting us with thousand of people around the world. We have become one with our devices and technology.
Technology will never stop evolving. It will always take us to the next level of connectivity. It is the future. If you can’t wait for the invention of a time travel machine, go and see Tomorrowland and you will enjoy plunging into your childhood imagination.
