Discover the secrets from Ballerina Makeup Artist Max May. Here’s your backstage pass to ballerina makeup…..
When we think of ballerinas, a gorgeous, glowing complexion always comes to mind – they never look too caked-on when waltzing across the stage, and all their features seem to balance out seamlessly with each other.
“The key to perfecting this contoured and highlighted look is choosing a foundation that will perfect your complexion without looking like you’re wearing a mask,” says Max May. “I chose to use a liquid foundation that you can work into the skin making the skin and the foundation become one.”
He describes the ballet neutral makeup look as total ‘on trend”, adding “there was no difference in the looks to the ones he has created for his celebrity or fashion clients.
The good news is for the everyday gal, the look is so easy to achieve at home. Simply follow the guide below by Makeup Director Rae Morris.
“I’m crazy about the chic clean lines and fresh aesthetic of sport luxe,” says Rae. “The trick is going back to basics. A flawless base lets your complexion take centre stage with soft pinks, blush tones and gorgeous, full brows.”
Ready to give it a go yourself? Just follow these steps…
Step 1 – Your base is the most important step. Warm a few drops in your palms, and press into your skin for a natural look. Try Maybelline NY Fit Me Foundation.
Step 2 – Tidy up brows with a multi-tasking brow tool. Use the pencil side to lightly shade in areas that need a bit of help, and then use the spooly-side to tame unruly hairs into place. Try Nude By Nature Natural Mineral Brow Pencil.
Step 3 – Ballerinas always have the prettiest cheeks. Using the brush included with the product, gently sweep the product just underneath cheekbones for a light, shimmery glow. Try Bourjois Blush in Rose D’Or.
Step 4 – Pop a light pink lippie to seal the deal – a lip crayon is the perfect accessory to take with you on the go as it won’t spill when you’re on the road and you won’t even need to sharpen it. Try Burt’s Bees Lip Crayon in Carolina Coast, $16.99.
Step 5 – Pump 3-4 drops of shine serum into your hands, and pull your hair back with a combing motion. Try Toni & Guy Classic Shine and Gloss Serum.
