The stunning red lips at Jason Wu NYFW 2015 stole the spotlight, but it was the edgy updo created by leading French hairstylist Odile Gilbert for Kerastase that modernised the beauty look, and added a street-cool to the entire outfit.

“You don’t want a bun to look old fashioned, so we created a masculine yet feminine style at the same time,” said Gilbert.

“There’s a very strong red mouth, and we wanted to add some modernity with the hair. To create the look, we are just wetting the hair first, then using Kerastase products to add lots of texture, shine and grit.”

Here’s something that lazy girls would appreciate.

“We are doing the hair in an organic way, where we use our fingers to comb the hair back instead of a brush because we want the hair separated unevenly in front and the sides,” continued Gilbert.

This possibly makes the easiest hairstyle ever invented.

“Then, twist the hair roughly, and pull it back into a package at the back of the head.”

As for hair accessories, “keep the style simple by using a matching hair elastic,” finished Gilbert. “We used black elastics on girls with dark hair at the show, and transparent elastics on girls with blonde hair.”

“An easy way to keep the style from looking old-fashioned is by exposing the hair elastic – this makes it look imperfect, which is what exactly we wanted.”
