SUKI WATERHOUSE
Suki is making quite the name for herself amongst film circles. A model and the girlfriend of Bradley Cooper, she starred at the Met Ball a few weeks ago in tiered tulle, and has this time gone for tiers again, but only two this time, not twenty. A double-layered, heavier gown that dips to the floor at the back is made soft by the wash of lilac colour over it. That angelic face helps somewhat.
HILARY SWANK AND MIRANDA OTTO
Never let it be said that a white dress is just to walk down an aisle with. White is gorgeous on many levels, and why should it be saved just for one day in your life (or two, or three, as the case may be). It’s fair to say that Swank is somewhat more … swanky, than Otto, in a skintight, one-shouldered number. But that’s because Otto has gone for a more classic style, rather befitting of her look. Their hair gives both stories away. Loose and sexy for Swank and a soft updo for Otto, this is exactly the way each dress was intended to be worn.
ADRIANA LIMA
This is what it looks like when there’s a supermodel on the red carpet. A Victoria’s Secret supermodel, no less. Equally as comfortable in underwear as she is in outerwear, she’s combined the two with this slinky, satin bustier and the (forget thigh high) hip high split. Cleverly, she’s slicked her hair back so as not to detract from the look and just lets her lips do the talking.
CATE BLANCHETT
All hail Queen Cate! She is resplendent in Givenchy. A metal and sequinned sculptured top half defines the look and is made beautifully soft with the flowing black skirt. It must be hard, no? Being extremely beautiful, getting to wear the most fabulous clothes in the world, possessing unbelievable talent AND being seriously down to earth? We love you Cate.
NAOMI WATTS
And the Aussie reign continues: Naomi Watts fronted up on the red carpet in a stunning sky blue creation, the star of which is the metal embellishment and the dropped shoulder. So effortlessly sexy. It’s a special trick of Naomi’s. She always looks so unassuming, as though she’s like “what, this old thing?” and it just happens to be quite spectacular.
EVA LONGORIA
Although Eva looks drop dead gorgeous all in white, I do have a bone to pick with her. Namely, why are you always in a gown with a train? Every red carpet dress seems to have the same shape. Answer: because it makes her look taller. As a diminutive woman myself, I also wouldn’t mind a few extra inches added to my height. So now I know. Just wear a train everywhere. Easy.
MONICA BELLUCI
Here, Monica shows exactly why she has a contract with Dolce & Gabbana. She’s the perfect face for the Italian fashion house, don’t you think? Not many women could get away with this length and shape of dress but Monica does it beautifully. Tip: the super high heels, sans ankle strap certainly help.
NATASHA POLY
How fabulous is this gathered, tulle black dress? The standouts are the beautiful pattern on the tulle, the fitted bodice of the dress and all that gorgeous fabric up the front. I love the dramatic, dark eyes with the low, centre-parted hair. Note the shoes ladies: a simple ankle strap will be the shoe of the summer, you heard it here first.
