Collette Dinnigan is one of Australia’s most renowned fashion designers. But while she may swan the catwalks alongside the world’s best designers, dress celebrities from Taylor Swift to Nicole Kidman and Angelina Jolie, and be at the top of every Bride’s wish list (sorry, grooms!), that doesn’t’ mean you can’t get up close and personal with her.

In a fashion first, Collette Dinnigan is celebrating 25 years as a designer with a stunning retrospective exhibition of her careerCollette Dinnigan: Unlaced. Here’s what fashion enthusiasts will discover…

A Fashion Retrospective: Curated in collaboration with Collette herself, the exhibition covers the designer’s 25 year career, featuring over 100 garments including her signature lingerie, bridal wear, ready-to-wear and resort collections, alongside striking signature lace and embellished designs and never-before-seen objects and accessories from her personal archive.

Celeb Factor: Collette’s list of A-lister fans include Taylor Swift, Dita Von Teese and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. Various stunning outfits worn by high profile women such as Nicole Kidman, Taylor Swift, Angelina Jolie and Naomi Watts will also be displayed throughout the exhibition.

Thematic Displays: The exhibition will be presented in a series of strikingly themed sets. The scenes bring into focus Collette’s unique creative perspective and craftsmanship, and highlight the romantic, feminine designs.

The World’s Largest ‘Collette Dinnigan Collection’: The exhibition, presented by the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences (MAAS) newly created MAAS Centre for Fashion, will feature MAAS’ significant collection of Dinnigan garments, which is the largest such collection in the world.

Concepts & Creations: As well as a wide array of garments, ranging from lingerie and wedding dresses through to children’s clothing, the exhibition will also offer visitors a dramatic catwalk presentation and provide insight into Dinnigan’s creative process through a series of striking mood boards.

Collette’s Inspiration: From film and music, photography, history, vintage ceramics, jewelry and fabrics as well as her choice of materials including tulle, chiffon and lace, combining in dresses and gowns that are made to accentuate the female form, providing a sense of confidence, sensuality and individuality.

Frock Up: The exhibition, Collette Dinnigan: Unlaced, will run September 5, 2015 to August 28, 2016, at Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum.
