Network Ten Entertainment Reporter Angela Bishop has attended more red carpet events than many actors have (she is about to attend her twelfth Golden Globes, seriously!). So with all the buzz ahead of Monday’s Golden Globes, we spoke to the ‘access all areas’ journalist to get the backstage scoop on the best and worst red carpet moments.
Big Buzz: What’s the most exciting thing about covering The Golden globes?
“The Golden Globes is a special event because it has the biggest stars of film and television in the one room, in a strangely relaxed atmosphere. The fact they know they get to sit down and eat and drink while the awards are given out means every one is in a fun mood from the moment they arrive on the red carpet. With Ricky Gervais hosting no one is off limits, so there might be a tiny bit of tension in some celebrity shoulders but we’ll deal with it!”
Golden Moments: Best Red Carpet Experience
“Backstage with Cate Blanchett as she phoned her husband, Andrew, and her three sons after winning the Golden Globe for Best Actress for Blue Jasmine.”
Seeing Red: Worst Moment
“The 2015 Emmy Awards, where the temperature on the red carpet reached 42 degrees Celsius. None of the women wanted to be interviewed because their makeup was running and the men’s shirts were sticking to them.”
Diva Behaviour: Most Frustrating Experience
“The last minute arrivals – stars who time their red carpet arrival so they can stop for a couple of photos, then dash past all the TV journalists and head straight inside. The noise made by our collective begging is quite sad really.”
