“Makeup, for me, is art – just using a face instead of canvas or paper,” says the 30-year-old.

“I try to use my work as something more than just making a girl look pretty.

“It has to express my feelings or tell a story.”

While cats are a predominant theme in her work, Tal also takes inspiration from almost everywhere, from fairytales through to hard-hitting subjects like anti-bullying concepts.

“Inspiration is everywhere. It can be things that I like – fairy tales, movies, books, favourite foods.

“Or it can be abstract concepts that I find interesting and challenging to transform into makeup.

“I have used my grandmother’s dementia, Anne Frank or anti-bullying themes in the past.”

In one image, she even colours in her bushy eyebrow as a branch to hang over a melting clock to recreate Salvador Dali’s famous The Persistence of Memory painting.

To create different textures she mixes powders with water or gel.

“It started as more abstract artistic makeup works, and over time my style became more and more illustrative.”
