Life is too short not to be happy. According to the World Happiness Forum and Martin Seligman’s book Authentic Happiness, we can improve our levels of happiness. Martin says “The positive feeling that arises from the exercise of strengths and virtues, rather than from the shortcuts, is authentic.”

The happy life is using your own strengths to enhance your internal happiness over different aspects of your life such as at work, with kids, family or friends. Feelings are momentary and are not always reoccurring in our personality. So we can learn how to trigger positive feelings more often.

Your brain is a muscle, use it or lose it

The brain you are born with is not a fixed thing. Science has proven that the brain has endless potential and can be trained to improve skills and intelligence to be kinder, happier person. If you hear negative chatter in your voice, you need to monitor this negative voice and counteract act with a positive one. Imagine yourself pulling out the negative thoughts like weeds in a garden.

Get Rid of Your Resentments and Negative Emotions

People carry their resentments and jealousies towards other people. Negative emotions towards others do not benefit anyone. Whilst other people may have done you wrong, you will benefit by letting go of these negative thoughts. The mind is not just the thinking mind, it is the emotional mind and they are intrinsically linked.

The Power of Music

Happy music which usually has a fast tempo and written in a major key has been proven to enhance happiness! So why not make a playlist of some of your favourite upbeat songs to listen to light up your mood!

The Power Of Smiling

According to Ron Gutman, the author of Smile: The Astonishing Powers of a Simple Act, “British researchers found that one smile can generate the same level of brain stimulation as up to 2,000 bars of chocolate.” Smiling stimulates the positive chemicals in your brain. A smile also signals to other humans that you are a happier, likeable and more attractive individual.

The Power of Exercise

Whilst exercise can improve your physical health and capacity to sleep better. It can also improve your mood! As exercise releases endorphins, those powerful chemicals in your brain that energise your spirits and make you feel good. Go out there and get active!
