Whether you’re a fan of Gwyneth Paltrow’s lifestyle site Goop, or not, there’s no denying that the actress loves to push the boundaries.
Some of the most notorious examples in recent times include the introduction of stone ‘sex eggs’ to improve a women’s orgasms and a guide to vaginal steaming.
Now, just in time for Valentine’s Day, Gwyneth is helping you add a bizarre ritual for putting your bad relationships behind you for good.
Relationship expert Suzannah Galland tells her Goop readers to take a match to all that expensive lingerie because those bras could be carrying the “negative energy and memories” of your failed coupling.
What’s more, she says it’s most effective when performed during a full moon – and notes the next one is coming up on February 11, right before Valentine’s Day.
Suzannah says that the lingerie women buy when they’re with a certain partner hold memories of times when both parties were their most aroused and filled with pleasure.
But after a break-up, that residual energy is left behind, making it difficult to find closure from an ex when those garments are still lingering in your underwear drawer.
“Our underwear chronicles our love lives. The lingerie you wore with past lovers can carry the toxic residue of those relationships, along with painful memories,’ she writes.
“While we might not think to trash lingerie that once made us feel so good – or that we spent a lot of money on – it’s a powerful, healing gesture to make.”
Here then is Suzannah’s step-by-step guide:
1. Find a safe place where you can light a fire. (Why not invite a few close friends to join you, too?)
2. Before you start, you might want to write out a few words, or recite a prayer to help release and forgive.
3. Throw your needs-to-go lingerie into the fire one piece at a time.
4. Watch intently as the pieces burn. Know that your past is recycling into the ethers, liberating your future.
