As we embark on a new year, sexual wellness is becoming more vibrant, inclusive, and diverse than ever. The Lovehoney Group’s 2025 Sex Trends Report reveals five key shifts that will shape our intimate lives in the year ahead. One which promises to be a transformative period for pleasure, identity, and self-expression. From the rise of sober sex to the exploration of erogenous zones beyond the genitals, here are the biggest sex trends to look out for in 2025.

1. Sex as a political statement

Sex is no longer just a private matter-it’s becoming a powerful form of political expression. In 2025, more people are aligning their sexual practices with political movements. And, advocating for bodily autonomy, gender equality, and sexual liberation. Trends like the #boysober movement, which encourages women to take a break from sex and relationships to focus on self-care, reflect this shift toward self-empowerment.

The 4B movement in Korea, which advocates for rejecting traditional romantic norms like dating, marriage, and child-rearing, also highlights the increasing politicisation of sexual choices. This pushback against traditional narratives is especially important as conservative movements, such as the #tradwife movement, challenge modern views on gender roles and sexuality.

Verena Singmann, Head of PR at Lovehoney Group, notes that this polarised landscape demands more inclusive conversations about sexuality, so everyone can explore their sexual happiness without judgment. The tension between these movements will continue to shape global discussions about freedom, autonomy, and equality in 2025.

2. The rise of sober sex

As part of a broader cultural shift toward wellness and mindfulness, sober sex is set to gain momentum in 2025. More people are choosing to engage in sex without the influence of alcohol or substances – aiming for clearer communication, heightened physical sensations, and stronger emotional connections. Sober sex provides a deeper, more present experience, allowing people to be fully aware and engaged with their partners.

Christine Rafe, a leading sex expert for Womanizer, explains that this trend reflects a desire for authenticity in intimate experiences. With the increasing awareness of how substances can impair sexual performance, many are opting for a more conscious approach to pleasure. By removing the “social lubricant,” people are rediscovering the joy of real, unclouded connection-whether in casual encounters or long-term relationships.

3. Exploring new erogenous zones

Gone are the days when sexual pleasure was focused solely on the genitals. In 2025, there is a growing interest in discovering and stimulating other erogenous zones across the body. This trend is about expanding the map of pleasure and exploring new sensations through sensation play. Techniques such as temperature play, feather-light touches, and deep pressure are gaining popularity as people move beyond the conventional.

Elisabeth Neumann, Head of User Research at Lovehoney Group, points out that the taboo surrounding areas like the anus is steadily diminishing. More individuals are embracing anal exploration. Not just for penetration but as a broad source of pleasure. This is part of a larger movement toward body awareness and self-discovery. One where pleasure can be found anywhere, from the neck to the wrists, and even the feet.

This shift is particularly empowering for individuals with disabilities or conditions that affect genital sensitivity. By embracing a more holistic view of pleasure, everyone can access and enjoy sexual fulfillment, regardless of physical challenges.

4. Fluid identity and relationships

The most significant cultural shift in 2025 is the rise in the fluidity of relationships and identities. People are moving away from rigid relationship structures and traditional gender roles to explore more flexible, consensual alternatives. The popularity of ethical non-monogamy (ENM), which includes open relationships, polyamory, and other non-monogamous setups, is on the rise. These arrangements emphasise clear communication, mutual respect, and the freedom to explore emotional and physical connections with multiple partners.

Alongside this, the growing recognition of non-binary, gender-fluid, and agender identities is reshaping our understanding of gender as a spectrum. The pressure to adhere to labels like “heterosexual” or “homosexual” is dissipating. And, allowing individuals to express their sexuality and gender more fluidly. As society embraces this shift, policies in healthcare, the workplace, and public spaces are beginning to evolve to be more inclusive and accepting of diverse identities.

5. A shift towards holistic pleasure

Finally, 2025 will also see a continued focus on holistic pleasure – an approach that integrates the mind, body, and emotions into the sexual experience. Sexual wellness is no longer limited to physical pleasure; it encompasses mental and emotional wellbeing, too. As people seek to foster deeper connections with themselves and their partners, there’s a growing recognition of the importance of emotional safety and mental health in sexual experiences.

Sex toys are increasingly designed with this holistic approach in mind. Wearable devices like the We-Vibe Moxie+ and We-Vibe Chorus offer discreet, on-the-go pleasure, allowing users to enjoy intimacy in a more integrated and holistic way. The rise of sex-positive communities and communal spaces is also part of this trend, where individuals can explore desires in a supportive and judgment-free environment.

More people are also turning to therapy, counseling, and sex education as part of their sexual wellness routine. These services help individuals address issues like anxiety, body image, and trauma. And, ensure that emotional health is as prioritised as physical health in intimate relationships.
