Get Your Kids Cycling With The Pedal Club – A Sustainable Bike Subscription Service

Buying a bike for your child should be a fun experience but all too often it’s time consuming and expensive, particularly with a growing family. Here’s where The Pedal Club is the perfect solution. Instead of buying bikes, you can use their bike subscription service.

The brainchild of Fergus Woollcombe , the Founder of The Pedal Club, the service is also much more sustainable given children need new bikes every time they have a growth spurt. Fergus is a passionate environmentalist, keen cyclist and started the Sydney-based business after being made redundant from his job at a Commercial Real Estate company.

“My mission at The Pedal Club is to set the modern standard for parent consumerism and to establish subscriptions as the practical alternative for take, make, waste in the kids bike sector,” he told The Carousel. “I want to build an inclusive, helpful and engaged community providing parents with far more than just a product.”

Fergus began his journey by gaining work and experience at a bike shop to get close to the industry that he believed needed change. After seeing the issues parents faced when buying bikes for their kids he launched The Pedal Club earlier this year which allows parents access to high quality, lightweight bikes from just $15 per month and gives them the opportunity to swap the bikes as their kids grow.

Fergus, who lives in Bondi Beach with his fiancee, has always loved cycling and wants every kid to have the possibility of riding the right size, quality bikes in a safe environment.

Bikes are listed on The Pedal Club website where they can be hand picked by parents and their kids. Fergus and The Pedal Club team will help the parents select the right bike and continue that customer interaction throughout their time as a member. Once the bike has been returned for a bigger model it will be refurbished and resubscribed. At the end of its time with The Pedal Club a bike, if in working condition, will be sent them to one of their charity partners who provide bikes to communities in need both in Australia and Overseas.

Fergus was also selected to be part of the Hatch Taronga Accelerator Group. HATCH aims to inspire, support and launch innovative ideas and actions to help address some of the most pressing environmental and conservation challenges currently facing our planet.
