With its signature slices offering a healthier alternative to the Italian classic, Flour Child Richmond is making it easier than ever for hungry diners to indulge in a “pizza” the action. Alongside delicious Pinsa Romana, here are five other reasons for foodies to check out this about-to-open Melbourne pizzeria.

1. A healthier take on traditional pizza (No cauliflower base!)

If you like pizza, but don’t love the carb baby that is birthed in your belly soon after, then Flour Child Richmond offers an excellent alternative. One that’s more authentically Italian than a cauliflower base! It is Pinsa Romana, which, unlike traditional Italian slices, features a unique blend of soy flour, rich flour, 00 wheat flour, and dry yeast. The dough rests for 48 hours, resulting in an 80% hydration base. crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and easier on the waistline. It’s also more digestible and lower in calories than your usual slice.

Simon Kouba, one of the visionary owners, was instrumental in bringing Pinsa Romana to Australia. “Pinsa Romana is steeped in history and tradition,” he says. Our culinary team’s dedication to using fresh, quality produce and traditional kneading techniques results in a pizza that’s healthier than any pizza globally,” says Kouba. For anyone mindful of their gluten intake or seeking a lighter option, Pinsa Romana is a game-changer

2. Gnocchi … just not as you know it

While the world’s most popular potato-based pasta is practically perfect as it, cheese enthusiasts at Flour Child Richmond can also indulge in a variety of ricotta-based version of gnocchi – ranging from a classic slow cooked beef ragu to a hearty roasted pumpkin puree with beef and pork polpette and chilli. For a smoky twist, the gnocchi baked alla Sorrentina promises to gnocc… your socks off!

3. The salami spread

Flour Child Richmond’s menu isn’t just about pinsa and pasta (delicious as their may be!). Their salami spread is also an excellent option for those who has made a commitment to the Keto life. Featuring a variety of cold and cured meats sourced locally and internationally, guests can curate their ideal charcuterie board. Hot honey and chargrilled nduja octopus anyone?

The restaurant also offers a generous selection of cheeses and classic plant-based antipasti, ensuring that vegetarians can indulge too.

4. A burrata bar

While some food critics have declared burrata, a “big fat blob of boring,” we say, ignore them. You don’t need that kind of negativity in your life! Instead, make a booking at Flour Child Richmond – which features a dedicated Burrata Bar with five different renditions of the beloved cheese – and discover why we believe burrata is still the big cheese!

One standout is the burrata capatana tartare. Which elevates the creamy cheese with the addition of basil oil and roasted vegetables. And, is the perfect starter for those who want to indulge in something rich yet refreshing.

5. Killer cocktails

No visit to Flour Child Richmond is complete without sampling the cocktails. Bar Manager Lachlan Grant, who was instrumental in the success of Flour Child St Kilda, brings his mixology expertise to the new venue with a fresh lineup of Italo-cocktails. Each drink is crafted to be as visually stunning as it is delicious. With options like the ‘Beauty and the Beast’ – a smoking cocktail featuring Absolut vodka, raspberry, lemon juice, strawberry puree, rose syrup, bubble-gum cloud, and wonderfoam.

For those who prefer the classics, Flour Child Richmond offers all the Italian staples. Including Negroni, Aperol Spritz, and a refreshing Americano. With a retractable roof that opens up to the Summer sky, the cocktail experience here is all about savouring the good life in style.

6. DJs and dance floors

Finally, Flour Child Richmond isn’t just about dinner and drinks. It’s also a great place to get the proverbial party started. (Not completely surprising given that it is housed in a beautifully refurbished former dance studio!). With a carefully curated sound system and DJ lineups that complement the venue’s vibrant atmosphere, the restaurant is an excellent option for casual brunches, an intimate date, or a night out with friends.

Flour Child Richmond is the sister venue to Il Mercato Centrale, Flour Child St Kilda, The Valiant, Left Bank Melbourne and Metropolis. It will open its doors from 29 August 2024.
