Watch Sia On Best Ever Carpool Karaoke

At least that was the gag to set-up James Corden’s latest, and some are calling greatest, Carpool Karaoke segment yet on The Late Late Show.

Just when he’s at his wits end, he spots Sia wandering aimlessly on the sidewalk, sporting an outrageously large bow-tied black and white wig that covers her entire face.

If you’ve ever wondered why the Adelaide-born singer dons the bangs when she’s in public, she explains, “I don’t wear this unless there are camera around. I only wear this to try and maintain a modicum of privacy…I thought, ‘What doesn’t exist in pop music at the moment?’ And it was mystery.”

Uncomfortable with the newfound fame, Sia quit singing after the release of her 2010 breakthrough album, We Are Born.

But after spending the interim period writing songs for other artists, she found the wigs helped off-set the feeling of being “destabilised” by the attention, and she had found her new route to the stage.

James even gets into the spirit of Sia’s signature look by donning his own mini-version of the full-face version Sia is wearing, although you’ll be relieved to know it doesn’t cover his eyes. “It’s like a head hug!” he screams with delight between Sia duets.

In between belting out some of her smash hits, including ChandelierElastic Heart, and Diamonds, Sia opens up a bit about her past as a drug addict and an alcoholic, as well as her belief in extraterrestrial life.

“I only believe in them because I watched a video of the ex-Canadian Minister of Defense [Paul Hellyer] just say plainly he knows for a fact that the American government are working with five different alien races, and my blood ran cold and I thought, ‘That guy is the ex-Canadian Minister of Defense. He’s not just like, some guy on YouTube.’”
