Both a moving tribute and a spectacular piece of theatre, Nijinsky will transport you inside the mind of a genius – and to extremes of anguish and ecstasy. The sensational glamour of the Ballets Russes’ heyday cannot be underestimated. This period of artistic fertility and cross-pollination changed not only dance but design, music and fashion forever.

It’s regarded by many as Ground Zero for modern art.

In the mind of Nijinsky

In this behind the scenes peek of The Australian Ballet’s Nijinsky photo shoot, Principal Artist Keven Jackson discusses the unique challenges he faces in developing the title role of John Neumeier’s masterpiece, and Artistic Director David McAllister tells us why this ballet will leave you breathless.

With less than two months to go until this ballet opens, The Australian Ballet dancers are taking on all that lies in the transformative mind of Nijinsky.

Kevin Jackson: The Story Behind The Australian Ballet’s Principal Artist

This mini-documentary on Principal Artist Kevin Jackson was shot at Melbourne’s City Baths. Being from Perth, Kevin had an early ambition to be an Olympic swimmer; then he found ballet. The connections, discipline and artistry drove his ambition to become a dancer, then his dream came to life with ballet. In his most challenging role to date, Kevin Jackson will be taking on the mind of Nijinsky. This role will need to encompass all that he has learnt as a dancer, with John Neumeier’s shockingly sensual choreography pushing, not only Kevin, but ballet to its limits.
