Sonia Kruger Celebrates First Year As A New Mum

The popular TV host says it wasn’t until her miracle daughter Maggie arrived on January 24, 2015, that she experienced such a profound sense of love.

“I listened to people talking about it when I didn’t have children, about how amazing it is and how it changes your life,” Sonia, 50, tells the Sunday Telegraph just days before Maggie’s first birthday.

“But it’s still not until you have a baby that you realise how much fun they are – it’s been all I expected and then some.”

After years of fertility issues, Sonia’s announcement of “Mags” birth made front-page headlines.

Sonia and partner, Seven News boss Craig McPherson, achieved their dream to become parents together with the help of a friend’s donor egg.

But the year of joy has also been tempered somewhat by the death of Sonia’s father Adrian, who died just months after Maggie was born.

Sonia says not having her darling dad, below, around at Christmas for the first time was incredibly hard.

“It’s been the greatest year but the hardest of my life,” she admits.

“When I’d hear Bing Crosby singing White Christmas, dad always used to sing that.”

Meanwhile, Sonia is looking forward to getting back to work for the February 8 launch of her new morning program, Today Extra, on Nine.

It’s a rebranding of her Mornings show but Sonia is once again joined by co-host David Campbell in their normal slot of 9-11.30am, following on from breakfast show Today and Weekend Today on Saturdays and Sundays.

Each show will also unveil a fresh look with refurbished sets, giving viewers a warm welcome into 2016, while Today Extra will endeavour to keep the focus on light entertainment news.

Later that same month Sonia also starts the blind auditions again for The Voice.
