Australian model Samantha Harris has quashed the on-going rumours about her marital status by revealing she married Luke Hunt before he went to jail.
Luke served two years of a four-year sentence over the death of grandfather Kenneth Lay, who died when their cars collided in Narweena, in Sydney’s northern suburbs.
The 26-year-old model told Marie Claire they wed in secret a couple of months before he began his sentence in 2014, describing the ceremony as very low-key.
“It was more like a family gathering or a Christmas dinner, full of love and support,” says Samantha.
She explained that the no-frills style of nuptials was “out of respect” for Kenneth’s family.
She said the wedding was always going to be small, but because of the tragic circumstances she did not share photos on social media.
The pair reportedly enjoyed a belated honeymoon after Luke’s release from jail in May this year with a night at the Shangri La Hotel and dinner at Tetsuya’s Restaurant in Sydney.
“I was in shock … It was like the honeymoon we never had,” adds Samantha.
The Daily Telegraph had recently reported that Samantha and Luke married shortly after he was released from prison earlier this year.
Samantha also told the newspaper they have been easing back into their relationship since his release from jail.
“We’re just adjusting and taking it slowly, one day at a time. I love kids and I do want them in the future, yes with him, but not tomorrow.
“We’re getting back into the swing of things again, training together and cooking meals – he’s a great cook.”
On Sunday, Samantha took to Instagram to share a photo of herself and Luke, referring to him as her “hubby” for the first time on social media.
