Unlucky-in-love Ruby Rose has fallen head-over-heels for her former flame Jess Origliasso of The Veronicas.
The Aussie pair, who dated briefly in 2008, reignited the spark during the Auckland filming of the video for The Veronicas latest single, On Your Side.
After hearing the song, which is about staying friends with ex partners, Ruby offered to co-write, direct and star in the clip. The Orange is The New Black star is in New Zealand filming the prehistoric shark thriller Meg.
“It’s me. Me and Ruby Rose. And it is our love story in this video,” Jess tells NovaFM.
“We’ve been friends for eight years. We just reconnected over doing this video. We sort of just fell in love. It’s pretty cute, honestly.
“We support each other in our careers and we support one another and be there. It made sense to be able to come out on that level because we want to be there in each other’s lives on a public level.”
Jess also explained it was all about timing for the relationship, which already has its own hybrid name, ‘Juby’, as bestowed by their hordes of online fans.
“It’s just this crazy thing when you care about someone for so long and then you have the chance to reconnect,” she adds.
“We’ve grown up a lot, we met very early on. We were very different people — we were babies!”
In the video for The Veronicas’ latest single, Jess and Ruby play characters acting out the highs and lows of a relationship.
“It’s a little confronting,” adds Jess. “Ruby and I laugh about how people will be seeing us (falling back in love) in real time, now immortalised forever in this video.”
Jess also tells The Daily Telegraph that “the universe absolutely conspired for this meeting.”
“It’s incredible when life can completely surprise you and catch you off guard. You never really know what will happen. Neither of us were necessarily prepared for how we would feel and the fact that life can lead you back to something so special yet have it feel completely new again. It’s absolutely magical.”
“But she’s incredible. I’m so proud to be with a woman I not only adore but I respect and admire highly. She is the kindest, most ambitious, most compassionate woman.”
