Putting Women’s Comfort First: A Revolution In The Lingerie Industry

Throughout the years, hypersexualized models advertising lingerie made women feel as if they were buying into the exploitation and the degradation of women in the fashion industry if they opted for sexier and more revealing undergarments. And, truth be told, those ill-fitting undergarments served a purely aesthetic purpose, instead of the hygienic, supporting one we should have worn. But despite of the photoshop-addicted society we live in that perpetuates unrealistic beauty standards, the world of women’s underwear has slowly begun to prioritize comfort, confidence and female body positivity.

Affordable lingerie is more available

Beautiful lingerie used to be quite expensive and very hard to find, but thankfully, that is no longer the case. Gorgeous bras, panties and other underwear items are now widely available at all price ranges, so every woman who wants to feel sexy is guaranteed to find some stunning lingerie that fits her budget. And let’s face it, being able to buy a wonderful piece of underwear that is as cute as it is comfortable and fitting without going into debt can do wonders for our overall confidence.

Comfortable is the new sexy

For many years, women have been forced to endure pain and discomfort if they wanted to be seen as sexy and attractive, being made to opt for painful underwires that poke the skin, uncomfortable panties that ride up with every step and underwear that simply doesn’t fit or function well. Thankfully, things are slowly starting to change and women’s comfort has finally been put at the forefront.

Apart from a wide range of different shapes and styles that are now available for every woman, brands have also started to pay more attention to the importance of hygiene and women’s health, opting more for natural and sustainable materials, such as cotton, linen and bamboo, that let the skin breathe, while providing you with the much deserved comfort. Nowadays, there are a lot of amazing g string options that are as comfortable as they are flattering, so you no longer have to endure pain in order to feel sexy.

Periods are a bit more bearable

One of the biggest nuisances women struggle with is being surprised by that annoying monthly visitor. In order to feel completely secure, we have to bring extra tampons and pads wherever we go, even on those days when we aren’t menstruating. However, with so many innovative types of underwear available on the market today, that may not be necessary anymore.

The truth is, menstruation is a completely natural process, and there’s no reason why we shouldn’t fully embrace it. A lot of brands agree with this notion, so they have invented practical period-proof underwear that can be worn either as a means of extra security or even instead of traditional feminine hygiene products. Apart from underwear, there is also a wide range of period-proof swimwear available, which means that you can now feel completely secure and protected, wherever you may be.

Inclusivity changed the game

It’s wonderful to have something to aspire to, so if a runway filled with lean women helps you get back into your exercise routine, that’s great. However, most women don’t believe that bone-thin runway models are the answer, and rightfully so. Life thrives on diversity, and there is no reason the fashion industry shouldn’t reflect that.

Reality called and asked for its wrinkles, stretch marks and cellulite back. As a result, more and more brands are finally realising the truth – lingerie should be made for all shapes, sizes, skin tones and preferences. It feels encouraging, supportive and promising to know that every woman can find something she could feel comfortable and confident wearing. Diversity is our reality, and it’s been a long time coming.

The definition of feminine has evolved

Over the years, we’ve all heard certain rules and definitions about how a woman should dress, look, act, and even feel. The good news is, those days are slowly coming to an end. Women are more comfortable with their bodies and the way they look now, and there is no need to fulfil a certain mould anymore in order to feel feminine and attractive. From cute and comfortable athleisure sets that can be worn both to the gym and girls’ nights out to sexy bralettes that are presented so boldly and confidently nowadays that they are often worn instead of shirts and tops as a part of chic and elegant outfits, new standards are being set for women’s underwear, so that we can all feel comfortable, confident and beautiful in our own skin.

Nowadays, fashion is roaring with self-esteem, so, at last, we have the ability to actually see adverts and brands selling to us, for us. We, as women, have finally realized that our clothing choices, as well as our undergarment preferences, are about us, our body, our skin, our health and our comfort.
