My Big Idea: Help Shape Australia’s Tomorrow

The Australian Futures Project, which backs innovators across a raft of fields, has launched a competition called My Big Idea, a “world first initiative” that aims to spark “a deeper national conversation about Australia’s future based on shared values and supporting action”.

A diverse panel of 10-20 judges from My Big Idea partners will select 10 winning ideas from the top 100 submissions, as voted by the public.

The 10 winners will be invited to work with a My Big Idea partner university, company, or non-profit to further develop their idea.

Ideas can be submitted online via mybigidea.org.au until August 3, 2016.

According to Executive Director of the Australian Futures Project, Ralph Ashton, extensive research has uncovered that Australians want a different kind of society from what they are currently experiencing.

“Australians are clearly measuring society’s success against values important to them and not just on headline economic growth data or the status of the budget deficit –and they are feeling a disconnect,” he says.

“My Big Idea brings to life the conversations we are having about Australia’s future with family, friends, and colleagues –over dinner, at work, and in the pub. My Big Idea helps Australians turn values into ideas and action.”

Some of Australian’s leading organisations are partnering with Australian Futures Project to bring My Big Idea to life including La Trobe University, News Corp Australia, Channel Seven, Pollenizer, the University of New South Wales, Amazon Web Services, AT Kearney, Foundation for Young Australians, Macquarie Group, the University of Technology Sydney, and Virgin Australia.
