Naturally, it’s the most gorgeous loft in all of Manhattan – probably the world if you ask Derek – and up until now, only the really, really beautiful people have ever seen inside.
But the fictitious model, played by Ben Stiller, is understandably excited after discovering his signature ‘Blue Steel’ and ‘Magnum’ still have some currency in a world he was sure had left him behind.
To celebrate his career reboot – Zoolander 2 hits screens Australia-wide on February 11 – Derek posed up for Vogue and invited the magazine to his home to ask him 73 questions.
“I’m here to ask you 73 questions,” says the interviewer in the hilarious clip below.
“Well, I only have nine answers,” says Derek. “So I guess I’m going to need … more”.
Some of our favourite questions and answers include:
So how long have you lived here? Actually I only winter here, my summer place is upstairs.
What’s the best part about living in New York? The diversity: you have really good-looking people, and also really attractive people.
What’s your favourite movie of all time? The one with the dinosaurs. Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. That was really scary.
Where would you spend retirement? Models don’t retire. They get turned into glue. It’s better that way.
What’s your spirit animal? I don’t believe in using animals for their spirits, only for their fur.
How about a movie that made you cry? 12 Years A Slave. Brad Pitt’s highlights were just so perfect.
What’s your favourite colour? I don’t see race, but probably Chinese.
And so it goes on. As Derek dazzles us with his intellect we catch glimpses of his over-the-top gymnasium, while a bunch of beauties take a spin class.
Continuing through Derek’s loft we meet everyone, from celebs like Zoe Kravitz to street artist Shepard Fairey and some buff men pruning bushes.
