As the sun prepares to cast its golden glow over the French Riviera, I’m excited to share that I will be on the ground in Cannes this May to cover the 78th Cannes Film Festival, running from May 13 to 24. While the festival is renowned for its cinematic prestige, it’s equally a celebration of fashion, beauty, and the art of transformation.
The red carpet becomes a runway, showcasing not only the latest in film but also the pinnacle of fashion and beauty. L’Oréal Paris, celebrating its 28th year as the festival’s official makeup sponsor, brings together a diverse array of international ambassadors to reflect beauty in all its forms. Their presence underscores the brand’s commitment to inclusivity and empowerment in the film industry.
Kering, marking the 10th anniversary of its Women in Motion program, continues to spotlight women’s contributions to cinema. This year, the Women in Motion Emerging Talent Award will be presented to Brazilian director Marianna Brennand, highlighting Kering’s dedication to promoting emerging female talent in the industry.
Anticipated Premieres and Star-Studded Lineup
The festival’s lineup is as dazzling as ever. Wes Anderson’s “The Phoenician Scheme,” featuring an ensemble cast including Benicio del Toro, Scarlett Johansson, and Tom Hanks, is set to compete for the Palme d’Or. Ari Aster’s “Eddington,” a pandemic-era thriller starring Emma Stone and Joaquin Phoenix, will also vie for top honors.
Scarlett Johansson makes her directorial debut with “Eleanor the Great” premiering in the Un Certain Regard section. Other notable films include Richard Linklater’s “Nouvelle Vague,” Kelly Reichardt’s “The Mastermind,” and Spike Lee’s “Highest 2 Lowest” starring Denzel Washington.
The festival will also honor Robert De Niro with the honorary Palme d’Or, celebrating his illustrious career.
Behind the Scenes: Glamour and Gifting
Beyond the screenings, Cannes is a hub of exclusive events and luxury experiences. Gifting suites and private parties hosted by brands like L’Oréal and Kering offer a glimpse into the opulence that defines the festival. These events are not just about indulgences—they are platforms for brands to align themselves with the artistry and glamour of cinema.
One of the standouts this year will be the Ole Henriksen suite, where the renowned skincare brand will be celebrating the upcoming release of “Glowing Man” – a film that dives into Ole’s inspiring journey, offering a heartfelt look at the man behind the glow.
Stay tuned as I look forward to bringing you behind-the-scenes insights, red carpet highlights and lots more!
