Disney Announces Nine New Live Action Films

1. Mary Poppins

It is a hard task to fill the shoes of the legendary Julie Andrews, but we think that Emily Blunt will do the classic role justice. The film will take place 20 years after the original, in depression-era London. Blunt beat out many other skilled actresses for the part, including Anne Hathaway. The sequel will be directed by Rob Marshall (Into The Woods) and also will star Tony, Pulitzer, Emmy and Grammy award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda.

2. Cruella

Emma Stone is going to take on the delightful villain Cruella De Vil from 101 Dalmatians. We are sure she will live up to Glenn Close in her cunning and marvellously memorable performance. The adaptation will be written by Kelly Marcel (Saving Mr. Banks).

3. Tinker Bell

Reese Witherspoon is  simultaneously sweet and sassy so she is the perfect Tink in our eyes. We can’t wait to find out what her adventures will be. The flick will be written by Victoria Strouse (Finding Dory).

4. A Wrinkle in Time

Frozen writer and co-director Jennifer Lee is writing the script for this big screen adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s book which is to be directed by Ava DuVernay (Selma). The novel is about children who travel through time and visit strange worlds to find their missing scientist father.

5. Maleficent 2

Angelia Jolie will reprise her role as Snow White’s evil stepmother in the sequel to Maleficent. The screenplay is in the great hands of Linda Woolverton (The Lion King, Alice in Wonderland, Beauty and the Beast).

6. The Jungle Book 2

After the huge success of The Jungle Book, which showcased incredible animation with brilliant casting. The film raked in a whopping $533 million, (and counting) at the box office so it is no wonder that both director Jon Favreau (Iron Man, Chef) and writer Justin Marks are set to return for a second time.

7. Dumbo

This unbelievably uplifting (excuse the pun) tale will be directed by the eccentric icon Tim Burton and writer Ehren Kruger (Transformers).

8. The Nutcracker and the Four Realms

This timeless fable which has been recently brought to the stage as an exceptionally popular ballet by Tchaikovsky, will transition to the live screen. It is set to be directed by Lasse Hallstrom (Chocolat, Casanova) and written by Ashleigh Powell.

9. Jungle Cruise

The star power that Dwayne Johnson AKA The Rock brings to this live action film, means it is bound to be a success. Following in the tradition of Pirates of the Carribean, this movie is based on a ride at Disneyland. It will be written by John Requa and Glenn Ficarra (Bad Santa).
