Amidst the hustle of everyday life, our homes can serve as a haven of rejuvenation. And, creating a harmonious environment within each room can significantly contribute to our overall wellbeing. Here. House of Rohl Stylist Fiona Gould, shares her three easy yet impactful changes on using home decor to improve your mental health and elevate the mental hygiene of every single room in your home.

Getting in the mood: Come on baby, light my … err… lamp?

According to Fiona mood lighting plays a pivotal role in shaping our emotional state. Transforming a room’s lighting can be a game-changer for mental wellbeing.

“Consider incorporating candles, dimmable lights, and warm light globes into your living spaces as a way of using use home decor to improve your mental health,” she says.

These elements not only provide a soothing ambiance but also contribute to a sense of calm and relaxation. Dimming the lights during the evening can signal to your body that it’s time to wind down. And help you transition into a more peaceful state of mind.

“Experiment with different lighting setups in each room to find what works best for you and your desired atmosphere.”

Mellow your mind with music

Another powerful tool to rejuvenate your home’s atmosphere is the use of soothing music. “Music can have a transformative impact on our moods throughout the day,” says Fiona.

From energising tunes for a morning boost to calming melodies for a tranquil evening bath, Consider creating play lists that cater to different times and activities.

“To enhance the experience, invest in an inbuilt speaker system. Or, at the very least, a waterproof speaker for your bathroom. Having music seamlessly integrated into your home allows you to effortlessly shift the energy of a room, providing a soundtrack to your daily life that supports mental wellness,” she adds.

Scent-sational suggestions for using home decor to improve mental health

Finally, Fiona recommends essential oils as a delightful addition to any relaxation ritual. “ I personally enjoy incorporating essential oils into my routine using a beautiful electric diffuser,” she says.  Beyond their aromatic appeal, essential oils have therapeutic properties that can promote relaxation and stress relief.

Experiment with scents like lavender, eucalyptus, or chamomile to find what resonates with you. The subtle bubbling sounds of the diffuser, coupled with the soft scents, create a spa-like experience within the comfort of your home. This simple addition not only enhances the ambiance of each room but also contributes to a sense of tranquility that is essential for mental hygiene.
