As a business owner, with Showrooms in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, 2020 has certainly presented a unique set of challenges. However, like all challenges, I believe it is always important to always remain optimistic, pursue new opportunities and embrace change.
We are a 20-year-old business with a very eclectic product range. Our showrooms are at the heart of our business, a destination where we can show off the beautiful finishes and quality of our collection. With the lockdown laws in place and our showrooms temporarily closed, we have to do a bit of a juggling act. We have had to completely shift the way we operate, embrace technology and focus on helping our clients – while keeping a safe social distance.
We may be seeing light at the end of the tunnel here in Australia, but I think the COVID-19 pandemic will forever redefine the way we do business.
These are some of the life lessons I have learnt throughout this journey:
Optimism & positivity is contagious:
I have realised that to be able to flourish in this new environment, you have to remain optimistic and seek out the silver linings. This mindset is contagious and I have found that remaining positive has helped myself and those around me. There are going to be so many opportunities, and new ways of doing things come out of this and we need to keep an open mind.
Stay true to your vision & beliefs
I am so passionate about what I do and why I do it. I love working with talented artisans and natural materials to create pieces which will stand the test of time. None of our products are mass produced or cookie cutter and this time has just cemented my vision. I have decided to surround myself with people who share my vision and values.
Relationships are everything
From home schooling, to lockdowns, it is safe to say we are all feeling increased levels of stress and disruption at the moment. We need to look after each other, lend a helping hand and offer words of support. We are all facing similar challenges and sharing ideas and solutions to some of these problems has helped us move forward.
Take time to unwind and do the things you love
I personally have found that taking the time to reflect and do the things I love have helped me relax and re-energise. With the travel restrictions in place, I have been spending my more time at home. I have been spending more time in the kitchen baking up a storm. There is something healing about cooking!
Making big changes is never easy but vital
I think COVID-19 has presented a really rare opportunity for us to sit back and reflect on how we are going forward and re-evaluate past plans. Sometimes we just need to rip off the band-aid and make big decisions that will have a lasting impact.
