Lorraine Lea Independent Stylist, Joanna Sivec, shares her tips on how to beat the winter blues.
Embrace light, cool colours: Allow nature to inspire your winter decorating palette. Imagine the crisp, clean snow on an alpine ski slope, or clear, chilly morning skies. By introducing paler fabrics into your home, you can create the pristine feel of a winter wonderland. Ethereal shades of cream, snowflake white and icy blue can create a calm and restful backdrop for your bedroom, while still feeling wintry and inviting.
Play with different fabrics: Use a mixture of soft textures to inject warmth and cosiness into your room, without making it dark and dreary. Quilt covers with a quilted fabric feel heavy and more luxurious to sleep on, but their light colouring maintains a spacious look in the room.
Make your bed cosy: Enhance this magical wintry look on your bed with coordinating flannelette sheets. Flannelette is a warmer sheeting choice for winter and will add an extra element of cosiness. Swap your summer quilt for a heavier one to keep you warm throughout the night. Amp-up the texture and depth of your bed with Euro pillows and complete the look with a variety of different shaped decorator cushions.
Layer up the texture: Increase the comfort factor even further by adding a ruffled throw rug to the end of the bed. Choose a colour that highlights the lighter shades of your quilt cover. In the lounge, try a shaggy faux fur cushion cover and neutral throws with tassel detail to increase the texture, while keeping things fresh and light.
Enhance your home’s structural style: The light, bright winter look couples well with lighter furnishings and structural elements. A home with exposed blonde timber beams and white walls and furniture items will help to accentuate this look and help to create the ultimate winter escape at home.
