Dry July: Here’s How To Nail No-Drinking

  • The amount of calories in alcoholic drinks consumed by Aussie’s each month equates to enough fat to fill three Olympic size swimming pools
  • The average Aussie drinker enjoys 10.5 standard drinks per week = 4,143 calories consumed per month = half a kilo of fat
  • Aussie drinkers suffer hangovers once a month, lasting 8+ hours
  • Almost half of participants change their drinking habits post Dry July

Dry July is the fundraising initiative which takes a light-hearted approach to Aussie drinking habits to raise funds for adults living with cancer, while rewarding participants with a feeling of wellbeing and the added health benefits of going booze free for a month. These include weight loss, increased energy levels, higher productivity, better sleep quality, clearer head and skin and 31 days waking up hangover free!

Here are Rosie’s top tips for staying dry this July.

  1. There’s strength in numbers – Recruit your partner, a colleague, a friend, or better yet start a team. You can support and encourage each other and it will also give you someone to sip mocktails with or try something new with on a Friday or Saturday night.
  2. Don’t become a couch potato – Swap your wine for a soda water and lime and let everyone know why you’re not drinking – it’s a great way to get people to donate and support you.
  3. Tell the world – Whether you use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or good old-fashioned talking, you’ll be surprised how many people want to support your Dry July. There will be admiration for taking on the challenge of going booze free as well as raising money to support adults living with cancer.
  4. Be opportunistic – now that you’re hangover free you’ll be up early on the weekend, use the time to go out for breakfast, try a new exercise class or catch up with a fellow DJer for an early walk.
  5. Embrace the challenge – Consider using July to make some other positive wellbeing changes and set yourself a goal. Maybe you’ve always wanted to train for a 10km race or start a yoga class?
  6. Remember the end goal – The funds you raise will help Dry July improve the wellbeing of adult cancer patients by creating better services and environments for them and their families. You can’t ask for more than that.
