You’ll be wanting to get a hold on your emotions during Monday’s (May 16th) “flower blood moon” …it’s a full moon combined with a total lunar eclipse in fiery Scorpio, and it’s set to mess with our hearts and minds.

And to add to the emotional turmoil, Mercury will be in Gemini and Taurus going retrograde (where the planet appears like it’s moving backwards) – so be prepared for miscommunications and misunderstandings in relationships and problems with technology.

Despite the fact we won’t physically see the total lunar eclipse here in Australia, we still need to be cautious of our emotions during the event as it will bring compelling hidden energies to the surface of our minds.

Astrologically full moons are associated with our emotions, a time when we need to deal with issues from our subconscious; but add a total lunar eclipse to the mix and withheld emotions come to the forefront.

This full moon eclipse is in Scorpio – the zodiac sign associated with intense emotional depth and passion – so it’s going to be an extremely emotional time for many people, and we need to make sure our brains are in gear before acting!

All star signs will experience a few intense days around the lunar eclipse with a T-Square between the Sun, Moon and Saturn.

Authority figures may grate your sense of freedom, to the point where many people think about avoiding or breaking things in their lives. We will all be challenged to be patient, to work hard or be structured in some way.

Depending on what house your star sign was in, behaviours, arguments and past traumas – may all come to the forefront.

We should be trying to release tension in healthy ways, sitting with our feelings and trying not to deny them and to look to channel them in an appropriate way.

Generally speaking, this affects women especially, because traditionally we hold in emotion and make excuses for others.

Scorpio is ruled by Pluto, and this planet had also been in retrograde since April 29th.

The only small consolation for our emotions during the “flower blood moon” period is that the Pluto retrograde will act as somewhat of an emotional ‘slow down’.

Any feelings involving manipulation, addiction and violence are likely to drop off a little.

A total lunar eclipse is called a “blood moon”, because of the spectacular reddish hue it turns when the earth casts its shadow across the moon during its eclipse phase.

While we witnessed this eclipse in Australia last May, this year only people in Europe, Africa, South America and parts of North America will see the visually impressive event.

But Australians will still of course be able to witness May’s full moon on Monday, May 16th – the “flower moon” – named as such because it coincides with Spring in North America and the flowers that bloom then.

Being in Scorpio, the “flower blood moon” will also have some added flow on effects for Scorpios and other fixed water signs – Taurus, Leo and Aquarius.

Scorpios often have a magnetic allure, an intenseness, and they can magnetise people and things towards them.

But it’s a double-edged sword, some things brought to Scorpios they are better off not to have.

Mercury being retrograde from May 11th to June 4th will add to the emotional mix.

Mercury retrogrades are about miscommunications and misunderstandings in relationships and problems with technology with delays and glitches expected – so back up your devices for one.

It is a good time to complete things you started before the end of retrograde on June 4th. Mercury is also known as the ‘trickster’ – so there will be an increase in scams, especially scam calls.

Relationships will be testing – treat each situation anew. Don’t let the weight of previous relationships overly influence you, thinking you know what the other person is going to do or say. It’s important to give the other person room to move.

There’s also a strong possibility of travel and scheduling issues. Signing contracts and making important decisions now can mean they have to been changed at a later date.

Tips to look after yourself during the “flower blood moon” and Mercury retrograde periods:

  • Don’t push yourself: become aware of how you are feeling and what you are thinking; sit and reflect on these. Life balance is the key here.
  • Stop looking back at the past or into the future be truly present and at home in your body – if you are not present with your feelings emotional turmoil will ensue.
  • Be aware of distractions:  think about what you are doing one step at a time. People avoid their feelings as they are distracted by life.
  • Slow down: especially if living in a big city. Get out into the country or nature and relax. Mercury retrograde will throw technology and communication into chaos, so be mindful of avoiding tricky situations involving both.
  • Journal or write down your feelings and emotions in a diary: especially if you don’t feel like you can talk to someone trusted.

When can you see this month’s “flower blood moon” in Scorpio? It will be reaching its peak on Monday, May 16that 2.14pm AEST but will be most obvious as night falls.

The total lunar eclipse (which we won’t see!) begins on the other side of the world just minutes (2.09pm AEST) before our full moon. So, if you’ve got any friends or relatives in Europe, Africa, South America and parts of North America, get them to look to the skies at 4.09am UTC.
