Would you believe us if we told you this burger features exactly 0% red meat? Instead, that juicy-looking patty is entirely plant-based. No? You’re not alone. Research shows that 27% of Aussies are still sceptical about plant-based meat. And, according to The Bloody Delicious Challenge – which is sweeping across social media and daring Aussies to taste-test a burger made with Impossible Beef and guess whether it’s the real deal – even the biggest meat lovers are being fooled. In fact, with over 162K views on Instagram and TikTok, reactions have been nothing short of jaw-dropping – including those from legendary Aussie chef Iain “Huey” Hewitson, who admitted he was “boggled” by how good it tasted. To prove he’s not afraid to put his money where his mouth is, here is Huey’s recipe for a Vegan Aussie Burger with the Lot… except beef!

INGREDIENTS

For the Burger:

  • 4 Impossible Burger Patties
  • 4 Burger Buns of your choice (e.g. sesame, brioche, etc.)
  • 1-2 Onions, sliced
  • 2 handfuls Grated Cheese
  • 2-4 Bacon Rashers (optional)
  • 4 Slices Fresh Pineapple
  • Green Tomato or Regular Pickles
  • Lettuce (sliced or whole leaves)
  • Tomato (sliced)
  • Beetroot (sliced)
  • Salt and pepper

For the special sauce:

  • 1/3rd cup Mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp Sweet Chilli Sauce
  • 1 tbsp Chilli Paste

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Preheat 2 tbsp olive oil in a large pan over medium-high. Add the sliced onion and sauté
for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Set aside.
  • Sauté the bacon until crispy and the pineapple slices until golden brown and slightly caramelised. Set aside.
  • Preheat the pan over medium-high and season the Impossible Burger Patties to taste with salt and pepper.
  • Once hot, sear the Impossible Burger Patties for 2-3 minutes per side.
  • Once seared, add sautéed onions and a generous amount of grated cheese on top of each patty.
  • Slice the burger buns in half and place them on a tray, ready for toasting.
  • Preset the oven to grill. Place the patties and the sliced buns in the oven, and bake until the cheese is melted and the buns are lightly toasted.
  • While the patties and buns are in the oven, mix together the mayonnaise, sweet chilli
sauce and chilli paste to create the special sauce.

    ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
  • Place the bottom half of the bun on a plate.
  • Layer the green tomato pickles on the bottom bun.
  • Add slices of lettuce, tomato and beetroot.
  • Place the Impossible Burger Patty (with sautéed onions and melted cheese) on top.
  • Top it off with the crispy bacon, pineapple and a generous drizzle of the special sauce.
  • Place the top half of the bun on the burger and secure with a skewer through the middle to hold everything together.
  • Enjoy! Dive in and savour your delicious, fully loaded Impossible Burger.
