It’s pretty rock and roll and can add some serious vamp to your eyes but what if we were to add a twist to the original?

Drop the midnight shadow and ebony eyeliner from your top lid to your lower lash line and welcome to the reverse smokey eye. It sounds so wrong but actually can it be so right.

This twist on the eternally popular smokey eye is a new way to experiment and play around with your beauty look and it’s a dramatic effect that will be sure to turn heads.

It’s popular amongst many celebs and incredibly eye-catching.

How To Create The Reverse Smokey Eye

This look doesn’t require heavy makeup as the reverse smokey eye will do all the talking for you, so keep it minimal.

First prep your base by using a colour corrector. Smooth out any uneven skin tone or dark circles and brighten your eyes before applying your eye shadow. For this use some colour correcting sticks (we recommend the Smashbox sticks) then you can add your foundation and concealer over the top.

Next apply a soft neutral eyeshadow over your upper eyelid, the main focus is on your lower lash line but you don’t want your upper eye lid to look neglected therefore brighten your eye with a subtle shine or shimmery shadow.

Then take a kohl eyeliner and apply it your water line and your lower lashes. Better to use a kohl crayon rather than a liquid eyeliner as they are more malleable.

Charlotte Tilbury Rock ‘N’ Kohl (Bedroom Black) – RRP $43.00

This Charlotte Tilbury eyeliner is perfect for the reverse smokey eye, inspired by the ultimate, rock chick “bedroom eyes” this silky smooth liner. It has the rich-pigmented colour of a kohl pencil with the smooth application of a liquid eyeliner. Stays put all day and night and is easily blended to create your desired smokey eye look.

Take a small blending brush and blend away under your eyes so the line is softened and gently use the edge of the brush to pull the line up slightly past the outer and inner corners of your eyes to elongate the line.

Then time to add the really smokey punch to this look. Take a dark brown shadow with a shimmer to it and with a small brush apply it over the kohl, focusing on the edges so it gives it that gradual shading effect.
