If there’s one thing Home & Away Star Ada Nicodemou is best known for, apart from being a truly kind and lovely person, it’s that glorious head of hair she rocks. Thick, shiny and never out of place, it gives us the same kind of hair envy that we get from the likes of Jennifer Aniston and Blake Lively.

Naturally, we wanted to pin her down and find out her haircare secrets. Here, Home and Away actress Ada Nicodemou shares them with us (with a couple of skincare tips tossed in too!).

Use Haircare Specifically Formulated For Your Hair Type

Everyone’s hair is different, which is why there are so many different haircare formulas available.  It’s so important to pick hair products that are suitable for your hair. My hair is coloured, thick and I have to use heated appliances, so I lean towards hydrating and repairing formulas. I am so in love with Thanks To Nature’s Hydrate and Nourish and Repair and Protect range. I interchange these depending on what my hair needs at the time. Sometimes I’ll use the Hydrate and Nourish Shampoo and Conditioner with the Repair and Protect Masque and vice versa.

Always Double Shampoo

I love to double shampoo my hair because I get that super clean, fresh hair feeling. Double shampooing also means that you can go longer between washing your hair ,which is a huge bonus with my busy schedule.

Leave Your Conditioner On For As Long As You Can

I use a wide tooth comb to comb through my conditioner and leave it for a few minutes before rinsing it out.

Try To Allow Your Hair To Air Dry When Possible

This is something that I can’t always do due to filming, but when I can I like to give my hair a break from heat and let my hair dry naturally.

Avoid brushing wet hair

This tip was given to me by one of my favourite hairstylists and ever since I’ve always avoided brushing my hair after I’ve washed it. Instead I use a wide tooth comb when conditioning, wash out the conditioner and then use a scrunching motion to towel dry my hair. This does two things: 1) it stops hair breakage (wet hair is more prone to damage) and 2) it allows the natural wave in my hair to come through.

Enjoy Weekly Haircare Treatments

Every Sunday before I start a big week I apply a hair mask. I love Thanks To Nature Hydrate and Nourish Masque. It gives my hair the added moisture it needs after a long week on set. I use this once a week and apply Nature’s Way Beauty Collagen Mask to my skin.

Apply Sunscreen Daily

This is something that I’ve only started doing in the last five years but I wish I’d done it sooner. I make sure my sunscreen has zinc in it and is 50 plus. Sunscreen is so important, especially so with the UV rays being so strong here in Australia.

Always Cleanse At The End Of The Day

No matter how busy my day is I always always cleanse my face at the end of the day. Washing your face is so important for skin health, even more so if you have make up on. Never ever go to sleep with make up on your face.
