The Fashion Week Ponytail You Need Now

Richard Kavanagh's ponytail for Dion Lee

In keeping with Dion Lee’s athletic aesthetic, Australia’s King of Hair and REDKEN’s Global Artist, Richard Kavanagh, created an über modern fashion week ponytail with a twist. This sleek, futuristic take on the humble pony will strut down catwalk when fashion’s wunderkid makes his Resort debut down under. One for the cool cats, copy this pony before it hits the runway in May.

See his guide below:

  1. Blast-dry REDKEN Guts 10 Volume Spray Foam into the roots and mid-lengths to enable workable control and enhance texture.
  2. Start with a slight side part with textured hair.
  3. Pull the hair back into a ponytail and wrap at the mid-lengths.
  4. Straighten the hair with straightening iron.
  5. Stitch down at the nape to keep the shape compact and utilitarian.
  6. Then use New REDKEN Triple Take 32 Extreme High-Hold Hairspray to fix the hair wrapped around the elastic of the ponytail (instead of bobby pin or similar).
  7. Blow-dry REDKEN Diamond Oil Shatterproof Shine into the ends with a bristle brush to promote flexibility and softness.
  8. Lightly mist Hairspray over the crown to complete the look.

Did you know: Ever wondered what the numbers on the REDKEN bottles meant? Us too. Each number is actually the strength measured against water, so the lower the number, the weaker the product, and vice versa.

Chrisanthi Kaliviotis: With her lyrical turn of phrase and penchant for uber-glamour, Chrisanthi Kaliviotis is in her element writing about beauty for The Carousel, while weaving in fun fashion and pop culture references. She also loves a road test, so we send many of the new hair tools that arrive her way (she actually knows how to use them). Have you seen that hair?
