Let’s discuss the fabulous high protection SPF50+ sunscreens that smell as good and are equally effective and gentle to the skin!
Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun or so the saying goes. Well when I was test-driving some of the latest and greatest sun protection products I did certainly take my pale (Scottish heritage) skin out into the blistering Aussie Summer sun and here is what I found.
Neutrogena Ultra Sheer
With the holiday season bringing so many visitors I was obliged to tidy up the garden. Finally, with my gardener nowhere in site, I bit the bullet and decided it was a perfect opportunity to test out some of the leading sun protection products whilst I mowed, trimmed and whipper-snipped. No Christmas present for my gardener this year!
On a 35C day I was mowing the lawn. Did I mention ‘mad dogs and Englishmen….?’ Because after I came inside bright red and parched I thought I might have made a massive mistake doing the garden. My face was scarlet.
After cooling down inside I was so delighted to find my red face was due to the heat (and hard labour). This truly is a testimony to the easy-to-apply, silky and clearly highly effective Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-touch SPF50+ Sunscreen lotion I had on my body, hands, forearms and the Ultra Sheer Face SPF50+ Sunscreen Liquid I had on my face, ears and back of my neck.
Even on this very hot day these lotions were comfortable to wear. They certainly lived up to their labels “long lasting protection, lightweight, clean feel”. It didn’t even sweat off. So I have to give Neutrogena a 5 star rating as these products really did exceed my expectations.
Nivea Sun
The Nivea brand to me is like an old friend. Since my teenage years Nivea products have been staples in my family. The new improved moisturising Sunscreen lotion with SPF50+ with Vitamin E really does feel more like a light moisturising treatment for your skin with a gentle fragrance rather than a highly effective sunscreen. The best news is it is both!
Savvy tip:
I would also suggest if you drive a lot during summer this would be the ideal product to wear on your hands and arms as your daily moisturiser. When I was a rep on the road I always wore an SPF moisturiser to avoid the sun damage. The ravages of the sun easily go unnoticed in the car driving with the backs of your hands and arms exposed.
This light and nourishing cream protects and is the perfect solution! I have my bottle in the glove box ready for duty!
Do check out the great range of Nivea Sun products.
Cetaphil Suntivity
Much has been reported about sunscreens of late with particular focus on the impact to sensitive skin. My sister has really sensitive skin and she has always patch tested any new cream whether it is skin care or sun care as recommended.
The gorgeous Suntivity spray on SPF50+ foaming spray is easy to use and highly effective. The good news is it is formulated for sensitive skins. It is not greasy at all and I felt like I was barely wearing any protection. However my skin felt great and certainly was in great shape after my day power-shopping the local plant nursery.
Savvy tip:
The spray application is particularly fabulous for ensuring you reach some of those out of the way exposed skin areas that also need protection.
This is a wonderful gentle product and ideal for those with sensitive skin. I am a fan.
All three brands are highly effective and all slightly different. Regardless of your preference they certainly will have you protected this toasty Aussie Summer Season.
