If this is Zayn’s idea at letting the world know he is Gigi’s knight in shining armour, it is a job well done. Taking literal meaning to the romantic cliche, Zayn’s bespoke Versace suit was laden with metal-plated arms, twinkling in the bright lights of the paparazzi. A crisp white shirt peeped out from underneath, with a singular white button completing the look.
Very much in keeping with the night’s theme, Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology, Gigi’s custom Tommy Hilfiger dress was rich in futuristic overtones. A wholly silver-sequinned corset was offset with a single piece of petrol-blue chiffon, which fell from a sequinned choker, down the centre of the bust, until it fanned out from the waist down. Sheer swathes of chiffon left little to the imagination, with the bottom half of her sequinned bustier peeping through. The metallic wonder was accessorised fittingly, with razor-sharp gun-metal knuckle-dusters on each hand.
In an attempt to avoid overkill, Gigi’s makeup was relatively minimal in comparison; skin was flawlessly luminous, with a beautifully strobed complexion, and nude accents aplenty. Eyes were winged but in soft copper and caramel hues, lips were coated in a biscuit colour, whilst her extra-long mane (thanks to a few extensions) was deeply-parted to one side, slicked back behind the ears and finished off with a tie of matching sequins.
Hand in hand and loving gazes aplenty, Zayn and Gigi left us swooning. Their red carpet canoodling was blatant and exaggerated; with cheeky face grabs (via Gigi) and equally cheeky toosh-squeezes (via Zayn). Whilst Hollywood romances don’t often have the best track record, these little lovebirds are asserting their might and prowess on pop culture which each loved-up step they take.
The couple’s take on technology meets fashion was executed with meticulous precision, and Zayn and Gigi seem to be the couple of the future.
