Going plastic-free is not only good for the environment, it can also be a complete uplevel in the luxury stakes as these five products show.

Ewe Care’s Day and Night Cream

There’s so much to love about Ewe Care, the first Australian skincare brand to formulate using sheep milk. For one, it adopts a low-waste circular business model; Ewe Care is brought to us by a family-owned and operated Tasmanian farm Grandvewe that repurposes its Awassi sheep milk not suitable for cheesemaking.

The sheep milk formulation is rich in vitamins A, B, C, D & E, including a host of minerals, proteins, fats and acids. Sheep milk is also the only milk source on the planet to contain naturally occurring levels of vitamin C.

Committed to preserving the environment and minimising single-use plastic waste, Ewe Care is also the first skincare brand in Australia to implement 100% home compostable packaging across its entire range and utilise components made strictly from organic compounds that degrade naturally and safely in the environment.

Ewe Care can also possibly claim to offer the prettiest forever vessel on the market; The gorgeous ceramic pots are locally-crafted and protect ingredients from light and oxygen. They’ll add a touch of luxe to any bathroom.

Tangent GC’s Yuzu Body Lotion

Swedish brand Tangent GC began life with a focus on garment care but has since expanded to include a body range, with all products carrying the brand’s ethos of sustainability. All bottles are made from bioplastic, a plastic made of plants instead of oil. It binds more CO₂ than it releases viewed over the product’s life cycle. All tubes are made of aluminium, which can be recycled forever with maintained product quality.

While the jury is still out on whether bioplastic is actually ‘good’ or at least ‘neutral’ for the environment, there does appear to be concensus among experts that it is a significant improvement on regular plastic.

The Yuzu body wash has a divine scent that is a delicate blend of mandarin and grapefruit. It’s vegan, cruelty-free and made in France.

Country Road’s wool-silk range

Unless you’ve taken great care to only shop for clothing made from natural fibres, chances are that the majority of your wardrobe is made of plastic in the form of nylon, polyester and acrylic. It’s great to see more and more brands producing all natural fabric lines, and Country Road is one that quickly comes to mind. The brand’s wool-silk range has a gorgeous feel and won’t cost you an arm and a leg. The wool has been sourced from a single farm, Beaufront Station, located in the midlands of Tasmania. Beaufront has been managed by the von Bibra family for generations and is famous for both its premium Merino wool and its conservation efforts, restoring natural habitat for wildlife such as quolls, Tasmanian devils, bandicoots and vulnerable birds. The farm is Responsible Wool Certified, a globally recognised standard that promotes animal welfare and sustainable land management.

YUYU’s wearable hot water bottles

A great and simple innovation on the traditional hot water bottle, the length of YUYU’s version coupled with its tie-up design means you get more healing heat across the body to soothe those aches and pains. They are made from Sri Lankan rubber and packaged in a Belgian Pimlico Linen cover. Ranging in price from $93 to $124, they’re definitely a splurge on a version you might pick up from the chemist. Available through Love After Love.

Davines’ Essential Haircare Shampoo Bars

Luxury Italian hair care brand Davines takes the quality of its Essential Haircare line and infuses it into a more-econcious product with its solid shampoo bars. There’s so much more to love about these bars than the fact that they are plastic free. For one, Davines supports biodiversity and conscious agriculture by sourcing one specific active ingredient for its Essential Haircare line from a Slow Food Presidium. Secondly, it uses a highly biodegradable formula to minimise impact on the marine environment. And beauty bars in general have a lower logistical and transport impact than their liquid counterparts thanks to their smaller volume.
