The red carpet has been rolled back up. And, the fabulous frocks inspired by this year’s theme (namely “The Garden of Time” and the associated exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”) probably in the process of being dry cleaned. Which makes it a perfect time to reflect on the best Met Gala beauty looks of 2024. From flawless faces to luscious locks, here are 10 celebs who really understood the assignment!
1. Ashley Graham
Given that she’s a Revlon gal, its little surprise that glamazon Ashley Graham (and her amazing makeup artist Ivan NuinÞez) relied on the iconic pharmacy brand to perfect her Met Gala beauty glow.
“The inspiration behind Ashley Graham’s makeup look was a collaborative effort between both me and Ashley,” “NuìnÞez says. “We wanted ethereal glowing skin with glossy lips and lids to mimic her striking chainmail dress. We enhanced her natural features with luminescent tones while also adding hints of darkness and edge.”
This included, for example, a slick of the Revlon Illuminance Serum Tint to lay down the literal foundation, for the rest of Ashley’s look.
2. Iris Law
For this year’s red carpet, English model and actress partnered with Clinique and celebrity makeup artist Anne Sophia Costa to create a beauty look using its dermatologist-developed skincare and makeup products.
With the focus on Iris’ eyes, Sophia spilled her secrets and revealed, “To start, I primed the eyes with All About Shadow Primer in Very Fair using Clinique’s Eye Shadow Brush. Knowing I was going to be using a soft eyeshadow palette. Next, I applied All About Shadow Eyeshadow. Quad in Going Steady creating that “soft dramatic” look. And finally, I added a hint of All About Shadow Duo. Eyeshadow in Strawberry Fudge for a soft pop of colour.”
3. A Kardashian Kween (and her adjacent krew)
From Kim to Kendall – and beyond – flowing, feminine Sleeping-Beauty-esque waves were a red carpet staple.
And, while you may not have access to an A-list hairstylist, creating these whimsical waves, styled with a sleek, high-shine finish or a fluffy, cloud-like texture, are actually relatively easy to DIY.
To get the like, first, glide a texturising lotion, such as Oribe, Matte Waves Texture Lotion at www.roguebeauty.com onto damp hair with one pump per section. Defining waves and natural texture as you go. Then, use a curling iron with a small barrel, to create curls, waves and volume.
4. Rita Ora
Loved Rita Ora’s wet Met Gala beauty look? You’re not alone, with Michael Medeiros, founder of Moxie Salon and Revlon Professional hair stylist agreeing that this strikingly daring and on-trend style is sure to turn heads.
“Moisture-rich products are the key to achieving the edgy and naturally sexy look.” He says. Before adding it’s all about using the ultimate gel and cream duo that lasts.
Michael’s top tip for those eager to recreate the look at home is, “Mixing a hydrating gel (like Revlon Professional’s Style Masters Defining Gel) and cream is a must. As using gel without cream will leave your hair crunchy, while cream alone will leave an unwanted, greasy finish.”
He also recommends, “If you have thick or long hair, dividing your hair into sections will ensure you get full coverage for your wet look style.”
5. Gigi Hadid
From her red lips to her blinging jewels, this year Gigi Hadid was giving serious bombshell vibes. And, her hair was no exception. With celeb hair stylist Laura Polko creating a Marilyn Monroe-inspired hairstyle for the star, using Joico hair products.
“First I prepped Gig’s hair with Joico Defy Damage Protective Shampoo + KBOND20 Power Masque. I then created density and volume with Joico JoiWhip Foam (mousse) and texture and lift at the root with Joico Body Shake.
“Then, to style, I blow dried with a small round brush, [styled with hot rollers and] set with Joico Power Spray. Then, once cooled, released the rollers and finish the lengths with a one-inch curling iron.
“To frame Gigi’s face, I pin curled the hairline to create an s-wave, sprayed with Joico Flip Turn, let cool, remove pin curls, brush through and set style with hands. I finally lacquer in place with Joico Flip Turn to finish!”
6. Zendaya
Zendaya’s execution of the Met Gala 2024 theme surprised absolutely no one. With the songstress, as always, understanding the assignment.
While her timeless beauty would make it practically impossible to look bad, there really was something special about Zendaya’s interpretation of this year’s theme. Alongside a flawless complexion and dramatic eyes (accentuated with a striking dramatic winged eyeliner and shimmery eyelids) Zendaya’s lips made a bold statement. With the star opting for a daring black lipstick – not unlike the Chantecaille Lip Chic in Damask at Mecca – that captivated attention. The unconventional choice added an edgy and avant-garde twist to her look, showcasing her fearless approach to glamour
7. Penelope Cruz
When it comes to style, the Spanish-born starlet rarely steps a foot wrong. And, this year’s Met Ball was no exception.
Her look was simple, sleep and sophisticated. With her dramatic eyeliner stealing the show. To get the look, we suggest Stila Stay All Day Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner in Stingray at Mecca.
8. Tyla
Tyla turned heads with footage of her being lifted up the Met Gala steps quickly going viral. But, if it wasn’t her hourglass sand inspired dress stopping traffic (and gentlemen ready to pick her up!), then we suspect her make up would have soon done the trick.
On the evening, the actress was all about a glossy, glowy body. And, if we were going to take a guess as to how she achieved it, a body oil would probably be the first thing that comes to mind.
Something like the Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540 Shimmering Oil Limited Edition at Mecca, perhaps?
9. Elsa Pataky
Hubby may have been a hit on the red carpet, for attending his first Met Gala ever. But, Ms Chris Hemsworth was the one taking home all the beauty awards. Donning a gold floral crown and long-sleved sheer gown in a similar hue, Elsa absolutely nailed the ethereal look. Which extended to her lashes. Fluttery, yet slightly dramatic. And, probably achieved with a couple of pairs of Falsies. Like the Kenna Effect by Effect Beauty Co.
10.Doja Cat
Finally, for a lesson how to NOT get the Met Gala beauty look, we turn to Doja Cat. Who rocked the red carpet with streaks of mascara running down her eyes. Because, we suspect this look won’t translate quite as well in suburbia, we suggest a good eye makeup remover. Like L’Occitane’s Immortelle Divine Cleansing Balm. Which gently removes all makeup, even waterproof (only if Doja knew), whilst improving skin texture.
