“Double Lining is where you layer two different liners – a powder and a gel – to get density, depth and definition all in one,” says Bobbi Brown, founder of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics. “The result is a diffused liner look that is darkest at the lash line and softens as you go up to the eyelid.”
The best part is that you don’t even need to worry about having a steady hand or precise lining skills.
“During Fashion Week, I was inspired by my artists who have perfected the Double Lining technique,” continues Brown. “This technique can look daunting but it’s easy to achieve with the right knowledge and products. Plus, it’s also a great way to perfect your Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner application. It can help smooth out any skips or bumps in your liner.”
“No matter the layer – neatly smudged or neatly lined – and no matter the formula – powder or gel – layering liners really make the eyes stand out.”
Here’s how to get the look.
Step 1 – Start by lining your eyes with a gel liner in a dark colour. I love using rich, chocolatey shades at the moment, as the finished effect looks natural enough to wear during the day. Try Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Dark Chocolate Ink, $37
Step 2 – Complete the look by smudging some dark brown eyeshadow on top of the liner. You want to make sure that the gel liner is still slightly “wet” so that it smudges ever so slightly when you layer the powder on top. Try Bobbi Brown Eye Shadow in Chocolate Caviar, $42
