When applying makeup one of the most common areas everyone seems to struggle with is liquid eyeliner – myself included. Today I’m going to show you my top tricks or hacks to make sure you have perfectly symmetrical flicks every single time.
The ultimate trick is to use a bit of surgical tape – just tear off about an inch or so, and place it on the outside corner of your eye, at the angle that you want your eyeliner to be. Usually a flattering angle is to follow the line at your lower lash line. Rip off another inch, and make sure it’s completely symmetrical. Try Nexcare Micropore Gentle Paper Tape in Tan, $1.99
Next, use a liquid liner and draw the line. I like to start with the inside corner and work my way out, then drag the liner back in. The thing with eyeliner is that you won’t get it right the first time, so use slightly smaller movements to fill in the gap until it looks smooth, then let it dry, then gently remove the tape to reveal a perfect flick. Try Maybelline NY Hyper Glossy Liquid Eyeliner, $9.95
My second trick is to use a pencil liner first to plot in the shape of your eyeliner – it helps to keep the lines at the same angle. I’m using a really fine retractable pencil which is so small and easy to be precise. Then, draw a flick from the outside of my eye towards the brow. With a liquid eyeliner, follow the line that you’ve placed with the pencil. Try Hourglass Mini 1.5mm Mechanical Gel Liner, $23
My third trick, and also my personal favourite, is to take some eye makeup remover (preferably an oil free one so it doesn’t break down your makeup too much), pop it on a cotton round, then take a clean angle brush and get some of that product into the bristles, and it’s going to act like a really precise liner where you can clean up the edges. Try Simple Micellar Cleansing Water, $6.99
