Minimalist Mod: The Hottest Trend to Try Today

The recent fashion shows weren’t just a hit for their couture ranges – the Minimalist Mod look stole the show too. Here’s what all the fuss is about.

Need a beauty refresher this season? Playing with black and white makeup doesn’t have to be boring – make like 60’s fashion icon Mary Quant and try this sophisticated look.

“This look is all about big, bold lashes, slick winged eye and a soft pout,” says Rae Morris, Priceline Pharmacy Makeup Director. “This is the look for aspiring muses — think 60s icons like Twiggy and Edie Sedgwick. The new season take is all about mastering a really clean line along the lashes, and a soft, pastel lip that pays homage to that legendary mod look.”

Step 1 – A matte foundation is what you’ll need to kick off this look. Use your fingers to warm up the product, and gently press it into your forehead, cheeks, over your nose and the chin area for a natural finish. Try Models Prefer Matte Foundation, $12.99

Step 2 –  Using the Latte (medium) shade, sweep the shadow over the eyelid, stopping just at your eyelid crease. Try Nude by Nature Ultimate Nude Eyeshadow Palette, $24.95

Step 3 – Lightly hold the bottom of your eye down, and line your waterline with a white eyeliner pencil. The waterline is the part that’s closest to your eyeball – so be careful! Try Rimmel London Soft Kohl Kajal Eye Liner Pencil in Pure White, $8.50

Step 4 – The most important part of this look is black liner carefully placed around the eye. Sketch a line from the bottom outer corner of your eye, to about ⅞ to your inner corner. Do the same for above the eye. Try Maybelline NY EyeStudio Lasting Drama Gel Pot Liner, $16.95

Step 5 – Finish with a good lashing of mascara, and repeat two to three times for a more dramatic look. Try L’Oreal Paris Mega Volume Collagen Miss Manga Mascara, $21.95

Step 6 – Don’t forget about your brows too – they’re so important as they frame your face. Using a clear brow gel, sweep the product away from your face. Use your finger to press any stray hairs down if you need to. Try Savvy Clear Brow Gel, $4.99
