When the temperature pushes past 25, you know you’re in for a boiling, sticky day. And it doesn’t help when you’ve worked up a sweat simply by crossing the road. Here’s how to get your makeup looking intact even when it’s scorchingly hot outside.
Face
Think longwear foundation is all that you need for your base to stay put? Turns out, it’s a little bit more complicated than that.
“A loose powder will help foundation stay, but it can look heavy and dry if overused,” says M.A.C. Cosmetics Senior Artist Carol Mackie. “Instead, use a primer, which will act like a magnet for the foundation. It also sits on top of serums and moisturisers, letting them do their work too.” Try M.A.C. Mineralize Timecheck Lotion, $88, which will smooth the skin and minimise the appearance of pores.
Carol’s top tip: “Applying foundation with a professional brush really does help as well.” Hold the brush towards the end of the handle, and to apply foundation from the nose, working outwards, and buffing in a circular motion like you’re polishing skin.
Eyes
Having oily eyelids shouldn’t stop you from wearing a peep of colour.
“Technology in product formulas have come such a long way, and it’s really easy to get your shadow to last all day,” continues Mackie. “Apply a primer, followed by M.A.C. Pro Longwear Paint Pot, $35, and nothing will move!”
Carol’s top tip: “Apply a tiny amount of Paint Pot and buff lightly in circular motions. As for powdered eyeshadows, sweep the colour across the eye (don’t buff) to prolong the wear.
Lips
Kiss goodbye to flaking lips, and try this easy tip for long-lasting colour.
“Make sure lips are conditioned, then prep the area with a longwearing pencil underneath the lipstick,” says Mackie. “Apply it all over the lips, and just slightly over the edges. Don’t forget to reapply through the day as well, especially after eating. “A matte textured lipstick shouldn’t move, but if you do need to reapply, it’s better to clean the lip then do it again.”
