They say your eyes are windows to your soul… here’s our guide to the newest mascaras, falsies and other solutions to accentuate your peepers.
I’ve been told by a makeup artists that the easiest way to look ‘done’ during the day is by simply curling your lashes, and adding a pretty lippie. Enter Rimmel’s newest mascara, the ‘Supercurler’, that dramatically lifts lashes and makes your whole face look more awake. The secret trick to getting the most from this product is by holding the wand vertically and brushing it up through the lashes, for blacker than black colour. Try Rimmel London 24HR Supercurler Mascara, $17.95
Love the volumising effect of the original Dior show? You’d be pleased to know that they’ve just improved the formula and packaging of the product, making it even more loveable than it already is. The star feature is definitely the Air Lock technology, which prevents the formula from drying out after a few weeks. You’ll really get your money’s worth now. Try Dior Diorshow Mascara, $52
False lashes
Ok, I know it’s a tricky task to get individual lashes looking perfect on yourself (it’s so much easier to do it on other people), but you’re going to love the final effect of using these Model Rock ones so much you’ll practice until you’re at your wits end to get ‘em right. The extra wide shape of each bundle means you’ll get loads of volume with just a few individual applications, or you can even keep stacking them on top of each other for lots of oomph. Highly recommended. Try Model Rock Lashes in Extreme Triple Width Individual Lashes, $6.95
The Miranda style is one of my favourite go-to products because it just looks so pretty, whether you’re pairing it with light taupe eyeshadow for a paired-back day look, or lots of liquid liner for a nighttime statement. They’re reusable too, but just remember to peel the glue off after you use them. Try Manicare Glam Lashes in Miranda, $11.99
And of course, special mention goes to Shu Uemura, the original go-to brand for good-quality falsies. The ‘Soft Cross’ style gets my pick, as the finished effect is much softer, and can be perfectly paired with a charcoal smokey eye. The band is a lot thicker than the other brands, but this gives them longevity. Try Shu Uemura False Eye Lashes Soft Cross, $25
Extensions
It’s not a permanent solution, but it’s so good, it deserves a mention. Made with black cellulose fibres (they look like tiny cotton fibres), this product will literally lengthen the look of your lashes instantly. To use, dab the product on after one coat of mascara, and seal the product with another coat of mascara. It takes a few practice runs to get it right, but you’ll love the result once you’ve aced it. Try Eyeko London Black Magic Lash Boost, $46
Lash extensions can totally transform your look and save you lots of ‘get ready’ time in the morning. Lasting for about three weeks, they’re the ultimate solution to those that just can’t get false lashes on right. When I had mine done from Elegant Lashes, they felt really light and feathery – I totally forgot I had them on, and I had to remind myself not to rub my eyes! You can expect lots of compliments on your peepers too. Try Elegant Lashes Luxe Lash Extensions, from $129
