Make-up expert Rae Morris shares with us her top beauty tips when it comes to contouring for maturer skin.
Here are celebrity make-up artist’s contouring and anti-ageing tips for applying make-up:
Never smile when you apply blush as it creates lines around your eyes and unless you’re a teenager, after you relax your smile, your blush will be closer to your jawline than your cheeks! Keep a relaxed face and apply blush high up on your cheeks in a soft “C” shape that follows your cheekbone.
The most anti-ageing thing that a women can do to her face to make her look younger is to even out her skin tone. It is honestly the most effective anti-ageing technique. It’s even more anti-ageing then Botox!
Try colour correcting concealers.
Red/Peach – neutralises dark under-eye circles on fair/medium skin tones
Pink – brightens eye area and masks fatigue
Yellow – neutralises hyper pigmentation and dark spots
Green – counteracts redness from rosacea, acne, broken capillaries, and sunburn
Orange – counteracts dark under-eye circles on darker skin tones; also neutralises veins
As women get older, we get more sun spots, more pigmentation, and our skin tone becomes uneven, so evening out your skin tone means creating a flawless canvas. You need to find a foundation that give you coverage that males your skin tone all one colour. Remember not to heavily powder your face – something our mother’s taught us that we need to forget.
You need to create a beautiful dewiness with foundation as powder will fall into creases and create more lines. Look to screen icons such as Jane Fonda and even Helen Mirren as great examples of wearing your make-up well. Powder should really only be used to make your skin look less oily, not to set your make-up.

For older women, be warned – contouring can age you. If you already have hollow temples, don’t contour this area as it will create a deeper temple and have an ageing effect.
If you have a narrow face or hollowing cheeks, be careful when contouring your cheekbones. By creating a diagonal contour line along the cheekbone, you will draw attention to that area of the face. However, if you want to create a more lifted cheek, just angle your contouring shade slightly up by starting at your ears and subtly lifting the shape to be more horizontal as you taper and blend the product.
Another anti-ageing tip is to contour the jawline. A youthful jawline has a straight line from the jaw to the chin and as we age our faces tend to droop in between, so this is the area where you want to create a straight line with soft shading.
A great product to try to add some subtle contouring is the NYX Cream highlighting and contour palette an easy to use product top help you subtly highlight, contour and illuminate.
I love creating a soft eye contour with a matte brown or grey eye shadow on your top eyelid. Simply keep your eyes looking straight ahead and create a soft c-shape with the product that sits slightly above the lash line.
Try Maybelline Color Tattoo Leather 24HR Eyeshadow . It’s a smooth cream matte eyeshadow that is long lasting.
